Savage mk II FVSR range report

Another option is Ruger American Rimfire. I had one with an issue, sent it in and it was fixed at no cost. I don't know how they compare for accuracy

I added another "C" clip to the bolt and a new extractor. I cycled through a couple rounds without firing them and everything seemed to be working as it should. I gotta get it out to the range again now and test it.

I have 8 Savage Mk I/Mk II's, various configurations. Have had extraction issues on some, found the "manufacturing defect" on the bolt face mentioned in several You Tube videos and when removed the extraction issues go away. Doubling the C-clip works, but makes the final bolt closing force go up, sometimes too much for young shooters (I use most of these as trainers with Scouts and other youth groups). The bolt face repair is the fix, though it does take more effort and skill. I'm not worried about warranties with 10's of 1,000's of rounds through all of these rifles. Sooner or later I'll inspect and repair all of the bolt faces and have reliable guns all around. Until they get so gunked up and need cleaning.

Yeah, they're good trainer rifles.

The bolt face repair is the fix

I'm not familiar with that fix. I'll have to check it out.

That's not a problem for me, my rifle is just for me. Unless my daughter ever decides to take up shooting or I have a grandson someday!

Let us know how things go at the range.

Just got back from the range. I still had 2 or 3 failure to extracts out of about 15 rounds. Even with the new/extra "C" clip.

Not super happy with that...

I think I'll buff out the chamber and see if that'll help.

I did get it zeroed at 50 yards though.

Yeah, that`s not right and shouldn`t happen. I have three Savage rifles, they`re all very accurate and I`ve had no issues with extraction/ejection with any of them. Did have some magazine issues with my 110 Storm in .223 that have resolved. I like all three, enjoy them very much and plan to keep them. Having said that, I wonder sometimes if I`m not " beating the odds ". I suspect that should I buy another rifle if/when my club range goes to 1K yards from 500, it will most likely be something other than a Savage.

Dangit. Sorry to hear about that. Thanks for keeping us posted, though.
