Hey everyone, I've been looking into the Savage Model 12 for a while now and originally thought I was sold on the 12FVSS .308 (Link) but didn't really like the stainless barrel. Anyways, I saw a video on youtube today of a 12FV .308 (Link) which is the same thing but has a blued barrel instead and I really like the all black look.

Well I looked on the Savage website and the only calibers listed are 204, 22-250 and 223. So I did a google search and seems like they did exist at one time but everywhere that looks promising has none available.

Anyone know if its still possible to get that gun in 308? I'm sure a used one might come up on Gunbroker every now and then but I would reallly like a new one if possible. I do plan on calling them tomorrow but mainly just curious if anyone here knows anything (if they were discontinued or special order or ?)

Thanks for any replies

I saw one of them at my Local gun store in .308...the stock was absolutely horrendous though. They must have updated their website recently as the page for the 12FV looks different than when I was looking at it a couple of months ago...they don't even have a picture of the gun right now. The 12FCV used to be listed in .308 as well, now it isn't.

See if you can find a 10FV http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/models/

Thanks for the reply. It seems like they dont offer 308 in very many of the "varmint" guns anymore. Its almost like they think 308 is overkill for a squirrel or something :D. I was actually checking out the savage website a little more after posting the question and found the 10FP in 308. Looks like a pretty decent gun and from the videos on youtube, a pretty accurate gun too. Maybe i'll have to start looking more into those. Thanks again for the reply

yeah 10FP, that is the one I meant. I forgot they used frames so my link didn't go to it.

A couple of months ago I was looking for a varmint rifle in .22-250 and wanted to see the 12FCV (I hate blind magazines) never could find it until after I already bought a CZ550 VLS. But at my local Gander Mountain, they had a 10 model LEO rifle. I am not sure which one it was, because none of them on their website is similar. It had a detachable magazine, said it had the accustock but the barrel was not fluted and had no muzzle break like the other model 10s with the detachable magazine on their website.

That is the one I would buy if I were in the market for a .308.
