Hi Fellow THR Members - I joined THR a few days ago and this is my first attempt at posting into a forum.

Recently I purchased an old Savage Model 23C bolt action in 32/20 - it has a five round detachable box magazine. The Serial Number is 60XXX.

I have done a bit of research on Google but cannot find anything on date of manufacture. Although the rifle is not stamped as the model 23C I have found out 23B's were made in 218 Bee and 25/20 ; 23D were in .22 Hornet and 23C were in 32/20.

Any information or advice on this old gun is appreciated.

23A = .22RF - 1923 - 1933
23AA = Improved version of 23A - 1933 - 1942
23B = 25-20 WCF - 1923 - 1942
23C = 32-20 WCF - 1923 - 1942
23D = .22 Hornet - 1923 - 1942

I have no serial number information at all for Savage Arms.

Hi rcmodel,

Thank you for your reply and information.

Since I bought the 23C Savage I have thought it was probably made around the 1930's so the production dates you have provided support that.

A couple of the wesites I checked made mention of Savage having lost records in a fire back in the distant past. If that is the case then this is possibly why details of serial numbers to production runs don't appear to be available.

Once again, thanks for the reply and I will keep on enjoying plinking with this old 32/20

regards
