Does anyone shoot a Savage model 25 in .223? If so I would like to hear your opinion on it's accuracy. This is basically an update to a post I posted on this forum concerning the problems I was having with my Savage model 25's bolt not closing some six or nine months ago. I finally sent it back to Savage and they "fixed it", however it still had the same problem + it now had an intermittent feed problem. I sent it back to Savage and this time they keep it a while and finally sent me a new gun.
THANK YOU SAVAGE!!!
This is the superb rifle I had heard about. Last week I put TWO three round groups of factory ammo into a 1/2" -5/8" hole at one hundred yards, and believe me when I tell you I am not that good a shot. I am now, so it must be the gun. Thanks again Savage for standing behind your product and making life at the range fun again.

Anyone else punch holes with one of these?

Yes, with hand loads I get 1/2 inch or under @100 if I do my part, only noticeable "problem" is bolt lift is much heavier then my model 12 but accuracy wise they are the same.

Bolt lift

My shooting buddy just got a new Remmy with a triangular shaped barrel and I noticed that the bolt on that rifle is easier to operate. I also noticed it has two lugs while the Savage has three but don't know if that has anything to do with it. Do you shoot 100 yds only or any longer distances? What weight bullet does your gun like best?

The heavier bolt lift has a bit to do with the movement angle. I belive the 12 and 700s use a 90* lift and the 25 uses a 60* lift. The shorter the angle the more force you have to use to cock the striker the same distance.....its just a fact with short lift bolts.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it, I remember reading complaints about the sixty degree lift on the 25. You do get used to it though.
