I have a Savage Model 64 .22 autoloader. I am very pleased with the rifle, but very unpleased with the magazines. They are made of aluminum extrudings and wear out about as fast as frozen turds in a nuclear reactor. I have put about 400 rounds through these two mags (200 each) and they are both heavily worn on the rear which causes misfires now when the cartridges hang up. Not only do they wear out insanely fast, but the feed ramp is cut crooked and roughly into both magazines. I doubt Savage will ever release a stamped steel magazine for this gun, so it is basically trash to me. It cost me $16 to shoot my Marlin 60 400 times, it cost me $60 to shoot this Savage 64 the same 400 times if I have to buy magazines at this rate. Kinda goes against the cheap plinker ideal that I bought the gun for.

This is what they look like when they are new

This is after 400 shots:

I had the same problem right out of the box. I put about 400 rounds through it and the magazine wouldn't even hold rounds in it anymore. I took it back to the store and explained that the action was hitting the magazine and rendered it not usable. They sent it back to savage and they made some modifications to it and I have had the same magazine for 2 years and many thousands or rounds, problem solved. I think the price of the rifle and the manufacturing obviously on a lower level was the main contributor. Savage did a good job on fixing the issue. So over all no complaints. it is a $100 rifle after all.

Still a Problem in 2014 !

I have the same problem, mine is eating the left side rear portion of the mag.

The Mod 64 is a great gun and eats all the ammo I feed it, but the magazines are the worst.

This gun has been made for years and years and I can't believe savage can't make a good magazine.

I would love if someone would make a good aftermarket mag for this gun. This gun really needs it as the gun itself is very nice.

Does anyone know of a fix for this problem ?

wll
