The best friend’s ten year old, my honorary nephew, is a southpaw. He is also getting very close to his first deer rifle. Most of the thinking ‘til now has been of bolt actions with a new Savage as the fall back position.

It dawned on me (finally) that a Savage Model 99 in .250 Savage or .243 Winchester might also work well if the ejection angle keeps the ejected cases out of the kid’s face, so I am here to ask the folks who own them:

Model 99 owners, do they work as lefties?

Southpaw 99

I had a older Model 99 (.308) with the safety on the right side of the lever action. No ejection problems but the safety was a pain for a lefty as it was on the right side of the lever. The newer models with the slide safety on the rear of the receiver looks like a better idea.
I remember that it was an accurate 'lil rifle with the 4X scope I had on it.
