savage modle 72 rimfire

I own an old savage model 72. It’s a .22 rimfire. It’s a signal shot lever action and very accurate ½ groups at fifty yards. It’s a near perfect squirrel gun does anyone know anything about them. The stock chipped and I would like to replace it with a new stock or fix it somehow. I searched everywhere on the forums but couldn’t find anything. I will have pics as soon as possible. it has an octagonal barrel and acording to my father it used to be used for target shooting and its customized in some way not sure how though. any help would be nice.

Is it totally broken? I can't justify a whole new stock for a little "chip". I would just fill the chip with a little wood piece and stain it to match.
