For those who shoot T/R under F-Class, I have read and heard that some meets will allow the Savage muzzle brake if turned off, and some meets will allow you to shoot with any brake but will put you on the end of the line and not turn in an official score for you, and a minority prefer you don't enter a weapon with a brake or suppressor at all.

Does anyone know what would likely be the preference at Butner F-T/R shoots, not the Nationals, but other events held by North State? I don't really care about shooting for score and would be going only for the learning experience and to get onto a 1000 yard range. I am looking for the email of the folks who run the meet to ask them directly, but wanted to get feedback while waiting for a reply. That person may well be a member here, I was told.

Weapon would be a Savage 11LRH in .308, 26" barrel with the On/Off brake.

Danke.

Looking at their web site f-class section, they use the NRA highpower rules. I would think a turned off brake would be OK. The problem with brakes are that they are annoying to the shooters on adjacent points. I hope you get good news.

From their range briefing:
#7 NO FULLY AUTOMATIC OR SUPPRESSED RIFLES ARE ALLOWED, NO MUZZLE BRAKES ARE ALLOWED.

Thanks Howard.

I've been able to speak with a couple of the officers at North State to get the scoop. Nik says the brake is fine if turned off. As soon as I get enough time with the new gun I'm going to try one of the weekend matches. F-T/R shooting sounds like one of the best long range challenges available. Should be an excellent learning experience.
