I want either the Savage 93-BVSS with accutrigger or CZ 452 Varmint in .17hmr. Which do you recommend and why?

I've shot both, the savage is generally a wee bit more accurate but the CZ is a way nicer and more refined rifle. SO are you looking for a nice rifle or an accurate shooting tool.

I have the CZ and love it. I'm sure the Savage is fine as well. However, I think the CZ is much better looking.

My CZ is a real tack driver. I've never shot that particular Savage, but I'm sure it would be pretty accurate as well.

I'd say CZ. Like the above poster said it's more refined and the Set trigger trumps the accutrigger any day of the week. I'm sure you about to get a lot of replies from people who think their Savage is the greatest thing since sliced bread though.

CZ

I would say .17HMR and all rimfires are better in a CZ. They are as accurate as any Savage and are way nicer looking. Go to rimfirecentral.com there is plenty of comparisons there.

Kennyboy,
I have a CZ 452 .17 HMR Heavy barrel Varmit rifle for sale. It is currently on consignment at a local shop. It's like brand spankin new and is an absolute tack driver. Scope not included but rings are. If you're interested, drop me a PM or email. I was actually just getting ready to list it for sale here again.

Krochus, I am looking for both. Of the two, which do you prefer? Is the Savage that much nonnicer than the CZ? On the other hand, is the CZ that much less accurate than the Savage? Also, the savage that you fired, did it have the accutrigger? I am interested in hearing how the new trigger helps with creep and accuracy.

Atticus, thanks for the offer, but I will be buying closer to summer. You will probably have already sold that beautiful rifle by then. That is the model I am looking at.

By the way guys, one thing that I am especially interested in is the finishes. The Savage has a SS barrel while the CZ a blued barrel. If the Savage only had a blued barrel, I would surely buy the CZ. This is where most of my indecision is genreated. Is the bluing on the CZ good or bad? Also, what scope and ammo type do you recommend?

The savage I fired was the older model without the accutrigger so I cannot comment on that, accuracy wize both rifles are sub MOA guns at 100yds but the savage is just that tiny bit more accurate. But as far as finish and asthetics go comparing the savage to the CZ is like comparing Hyundai to a Cadillac, shure they are both pretty good cars but one is just way nicer than the other one.

Now bear in mind that my CZ is not a heavy barreled gun as is my buddys savage, so that may account for a small portion of the accuracy diffrence.

Check back this Summer. I'm thinking about getting it back tomorrow. I'm in no hurry to sell it really, and I still have a few boxes of ammo left to shoot up. I wouldn't even consider selling it if it was a LH bolt....and if I didn't already have several other rimfires. I would HIGHLY recommend the 452 though, regardless of where or when you buy it. It's a joy to shoot.

I too think the CZ is a better gun, but you can only get the set trigger if you get the CZ 453 the 452 has the regular trigger.

I have shot both, I believe the CZ is a much nicer gun than the Savage. For $15 in the CZ I have gotten the trigger in both of mine to 12oz with no creep using Eric Brooks trigger kit. I have 2 of the Varmints, 1 in 22lr and 1 in 17HMR. They will shoot just as well and in my experience better than the Savage. I shoot BR competition and where I shoot, about 50% of the rifles are CZ's...

I have a CZ and a Savage in 223 and the Savage shoots half the group size of the CZ.
I have a CZ and Ruger in 17 HMR and the Ruger out shoots the CZ. CZ's are prettier in both cases but it is only skin deep.
I'll buy a butt ugly rifle any day if it shoots good. I'm through buying CZ's.

I've shot a couple of Savage 17hmrs. I was actually a bit dissapointed in the accuracy of the savage versus the CZs. I really wanted to like the Savage because it was a left-handed bolt, but it was just a lot less refined and some things turned me off, the safety, the rough bolt, and the 1.25" groups versus the smooth bolt, nicer stock, and smaller group sizes for the CZ 452. When they come out with a LH 452 in 17HMR, then I'm snatching it right up.

Having been stuck with the same problem I was forced to purchase both and try them out.
Result after much shooting and tweaking I kept the Savage over the CZ due to the fact that I have drilled the “X” ring at one hundred yards with the Savage with much less effort than The CZ, I don't know why but for some reason the Savage shoots better from a primitive rest or from any non rested position. CZ on the other hand was a fine shooter but I needed a solid bench rest to get the same accuracy I could get standing and prone with the Savage. I have no bias against the CZ but for the type of field shooting I do the Savage was better for me. Remember to take into account that you need to try both, you may get completely different results because no Two people shoot the same way and you may find the CZ gives you better results. Also Make sure all things in your tests are as equal as they can be, I made sure that I shot both guns with all types and weights of ammo and that they both had the same optics. Find a good range and see if you can rent both guns and see what you think if not you may have to do the dual purchase as I did and then sell off the one that you do not like.

this is my 527 in 223, the only thing i ever did to it, was to moly coat the bore, these are all at 100 yds, shot on one saturday, tyring out several brands of 223 ammo, them remmy yellow box did pretty good, and the black hills was great, but this was better than the black hills by about 75%.
