Do the groups show a particular shape? Stringing? Or, are they kinda round?

When you shoot are you resting the barrel on the rest? In other words is the barrel touching anything when you shoot for groups?

More round than anything. One min 2” over bull the next it’s under it. Only place that has 6.5 ammo locally wants $50/60-box so he doesn’t shoot it a lot.

I'll be blunt, can HE shoot better than 2" at 100?

Sounds like my Ruger American Ranch in 450 BM before I sent it back to Ruger.

Now it shoots sub-MOA with the right ammo

Try a different scope, may be a bedding problem, may be a barrel problem or headspace.

You can count on Ruger to get it right...the second time.

The next step needs to be a known shooter with a known scope.

It's entirely possible this is simply the best this particular rifle can due with that bullet. May also be an issue with the shooter's form and parallax with the scope. If the scope is fixed at 150, then changes of head position could very well account for this if he's coming off/on the gun between shots.

He shot the 140gr Hornady match and still cant get under 2''.

I have 3 Savage 6.5CM's and have built 2 more for friends. A Savage 6.5CM with a good scope and competent shooter that will not shoot that ammunition better than that is cursed!

Just an update. He bought dies, the bullets that gave him a hard time, comparator, starline brass, Varget and I helped him get 20k off the lands. He sent me a picture the other day with a load that had 3 almost in the same hole. I’m guessing the gun doesn’t like the factory load.
