Hi folks,
I've come across an unusual rifle and I'm wondering if anyone might have some insight into this. It's a Savage 22 pump action with an octagonal barrel. This rifle looks to be from the 30's or 40's possibly. The barrel has the markings SAVAGE CO. 22 SL-LR UTICA N.Y. 39.475
I'm thinking it might be one of the one's that they used in the carnival/midway shooting galleries way back then.
Anyone have any information on this? I've dug around quite a bit and cannot locate anything. That's the part that's getting me. Not being able to find any info.
:scrutiny:

Thanks in advance.

:)

Found several in the Blue Book...

Model 1903 mfg. 1903-22.

Model 1914 mfg. 1914-36.

Model 25 mfg. 1925-29.

Model 29 mfg. 1929-67.

All of these had octagonal barrels and were all in .22 s, l, lr. Any more info on your rifle? Barrel length, pistol grip, checkering or not? Fancy wood ir anything?

Those rifles were very popular and very common. Many of the type were used by shooting galleries, but gallery guns were made only in .22 Short only and used a special bullet that would break up on the thin metal backstop of the gallery. Most are marked ".22 Short" and "Gallery Rifle" or some such.
