I've got a savage 110 in .30-06 that was handed down to my thirteen year old. She's 5'1" and hasn't done much shooting. I want a more age/size appropriate caliber for mule deer hunting. I was thinking on Adams & Bennet in 7MM Mauser or 7MM-08. Which would be easier? With the Mauser would I have to do any alteration to the bolt?
Thanks

I think the 7x57 would have a better chance of running out of the '06 magazine. Bolt face is the same. Ask to be sure at http://www.savageshooters.net/forum/

How about the Remington Managed Recoil ammunition in .30-06? It shoots a 125 gr softpoint at 2660 fps, about the same muzzle energy as a .30-30 but flatter trajectory and better downrange energy.

In the table at
http://www.remington.com/products/a...stics_results.aspx?data=RL30062*R7MSR1*R30301
the first line of each table is .30-06 Managed recoil, then 7x57, then .30-30.

I'd go with 6.5x55 Swede. .30-06 bolt face and magazine will work perfectly.

There's a how-to on barrel swaps on savageshooters.net, but the site appears to be lagging right now.

I've swapped barrels on a couple Savages. Pretty simple to do. The Savage Shooter article outlines a sized case method of headspacing. I prefer to use actual headspace gauges, but the size case method will work fine.

Go with Sharp Shooter Supply for your barrel. I don't think you'll be happy with the Adams and Bennett barrel. I've heard lots of stories about poor machining of the rifling in those barrels.

The Remington Managed Recoil ammo mentioned above is also another option that will save you money.
