I recently put a Shaw barrel on an old Savage 110 that I had. Originally a 30-06, I changed to a 35 Whelen barrel, re-stocked and bedded, added a Winchester front sight and a Remington rear. It shoots well.

The barrel contour is very heavy, and while it makes the gun a pleasure to shoot, it feels a little heavy for caliber, if you know what I mean.

Was considering having someone rechamber the barrel to either a 358 Norma, or a close wildcat; I have a pet .338 Win Mag, and lots of cases for the same. I know running the 338 cases through a 358 die will leave the necks a bit short, so I wonder if I could just plan for that in the rechamber? Might be easier just to not worry about it and resize the brass and forget it.

I know I will need to change the bolt head, but what about feeding from the blind magazine? It's an old stagger feed. Will I have to get a new follower or do anything with the rails?

Finally, anybody know of a reputable gunsmith that can rechamber for me? I have headspace gauges and can install myself, I just need the machining done. Timeliness isn't an concern, but quality of work and character are.

I don't think you'll have an issue here. I've gone from both mag to std and std to mag with out any problem with the blind magazine.

The rechamber might cost more than the barrel.
