So, I'm picking up a used Ruger No. 1 in .300 Dakota (previous owner bought it as a .30-06, had it rechambered in the original barrel). I want to turn it into a .338-06 AI (don't ask). Judging from the case dimensions, it looks like I need to rebarrel, rather than rebore--correct me if I'm wrong.

That being said, does anyone know of a good gunsmith for a rebarrel on this configuration? Also looking for a recommendation on barrel manufacturer (thinking Krieger).

Thanks, all.

I have bought 4 Ruger #1s over the years planning to rebarrel them.
They always shoot too well with the original barrel.
Then I thought I had one, a 270 that did not shoot as well as my other 270s.

But last month I cleaned the copper out, put a bigger scope on it, put some quality bullets in it, and fired 3 shots:
0.44" 3 shot group at 50y

I could tell, even with that tiny sample, without even sighting it in, I am not pulling that barrel off.
