I value my long guns. I baby my long guns. It seems, however, that I am incapaple of pulling a rifle or shotgun out of a crowded safe without dinging the stock on that lip at the bottom of the door opening. I've got about three stocks with that little "kiss" mark where wood hit steel.
I finally had a Eureka! moment and figured out how to soften that lip and save my babies. I got a 24-inch length of fuel line (quarter-inch inside diameter), stretched it out on the bench, and made a lenghwise slit down one side, essentially creating a small, rubber version of pipe insulation. Then, I slipped the hose over that sharp lip, forming a nice rubber bumper over the entire length. Worked like a charm, and, at least on my Cannon safe, the door does not knock the hose off when it closes. Problem solved.
At my local Lowes, the fuel line is sold in the plumbing department for about a buck a foot.
