Saw a VERY nice S&W 25-2

It's in the original fitted wooden box with the sight adjustment screwdriver, and cleaning accessories. No manual. It's in virtually perfect condition. The only wear I saw was a very light cylinder ring, and the flimsy felt-covered plastic fitting inside the box is broken in a couple of places. It obviously hasn't been shot much.

The guy who owns it bought it years ago and isn't a collector...

So, I have two questions.

What is it worth?

What should I offer him?

Seriously, does this gun have enough collector value that shooting it isn't a good idea?

Value depends on a lot of factors. How much you want it, how much he wants to sell it, what similar weapons are bringing in your area, etc. Model 25's as you describe can and have gone for between 400-1000.

Somewhere around 5 Ben Franklins would not be an insult.

As to collector value, hard core folks would want the outer shippping sleeve, original paperwork and an interior in better condition. If it's been shot, shoot it.

I just got this little beauty for what amounts to less than $400. I put 100 rounds through it today and it is quite the thumper.

Marshall, I don't know where these guys come up with those prices.

If the author of that article wants to put his money where his mouth is, I'll buy them all day long for that price. (I wonder what the weather's like on his planet, anyway?)

John, I think I'd offer $500 and see where he'll go from there. Personally, I'd go to $600, if it were me. But I happen to love older Smith revolvers. Hence, my screen name.

I'd go with $500 cash and a check book incase! Around here a good buy on the outfit as decribed would be $700-900 retail.
