Saw something the other day that made me sick

I only know what I saw, a guy with what looked like a redhead duck pulling it out of the back of an airboat and tossing it in a ditch. I SAW that, didn't dream it. Eyewitness report. :D

I'm betting the guy was a guide as most with airboats around here ARE duck hunting guides. I know a few of 'em. Some I wouldn't waste a penny on hunting with, can't call, don't have a dog, etc. LOL Anyway, if he were a guide, that would explain why he didn't dump 'em in the bay with his clients watching him, don't ya think? I mean, it IS a violation of game law.

I can't say the reason for "dumping" the duck(s), nor can anyone else...unless you stopped and asked. Beyond that...its ALL speculation.

As you say...you saw a guy disposing of a duck carcass in a ditch, I am not contesting that....or the appropriateness of choosing that site. I am just saying everyone is quick to jump to conclusions.

He MIGHT have been a guide with some ducks he didn't want to clean, OR the duck(s) MIGHT have been in the back of the boat where a fuel tank leaked and contaminated them, who knows?

There may have been several "failures" on his part, or not. You only saw a small part of the picture (entire hunt/event) though...and have tried to "fill in the blanks" around that.

At best...the guy picked a poor place and way to dispose of the duck(s) for whatever reason.

Mmm, well, I wonder what a game warden woulda thunk.:scrutiny: I'd have liked to hear that conversation, too. Anyway, what I saw didn't sit right with me. I DID ask for opinions on the incident, one way or the other, and I know there's two sides to every story, but then, I don't believe Herman Cain, either. LOL!.

Game Warden wouldn't have "thunk" anything, he would have gone over there and gotten the FACTS. ;)

He would then have something to act on or not.

I agree...on the surface it looks somewhat suspicious, so if it made you "sick" why didn't you report it?

Don't be shy about getting involved in matters you feel strongly about. We sportsmen need to police our own (where possible/practical).

I am NOT defending the guy IF he did anything wrong, just questioning if its right to jump to conclusions...as some here have done. That is all.

Perhaps it's my survival instinct, best way to stay out of a gunfight is to avoid the situation. I know, if I'd had the game thief number, I could have, but I didn't. I don't know if 911 would have appreciated the report.

If the guy did something unethical, he got away with it, but that ain't the first time anything like that has happened, I'm sure. I remember when I was a kid, I had read in a book that coot was eaten up north. I shot a couple cause there weren't any ducks flying. I mean, there's a season on 'em, SOMEbody must do SOMEthing with 'em, right? Well, I tried to pick the things and they stunk so bad I tossed 'em in the woods. LOL! I at least TRIED, though. I just didn't wanna puke. :D Them's the last coots I ever wasted a round on.

If it was cold enough to keep the ducks from spoiling, I'd guess he was hiding his first bag/possession limit and then taking the boat back out to the blind to shoot another limit.
