And this is probably the first time in my life i've actually seen someone get handcuffed (outside of TV/movies).

I'm not sure exactly what they did. This was at the Richmond, VA show yesterday. I was heading out myself and I saw two black guys being led away in handcuffs by the police. As I walked out I saw them sitting in the back of a cruiser.

This is probably a mundane thing for some of you but it was interesting to my sheltered self. I think we can assume it was either shoplifting or failed background check ("Are you a fellon?" "No" "Gotcha!") but it also made me think about how easy it would be to steal something at a gun show. In some areas, some of the booths are not watched very closely (not that I would ever steal anything).

Has anyone ever seen someone try to steal something at a show or any other kind of criminal behavior?

Last show I was at, the police came up to the guy whose table I was at, asking the proprietor to come ID a guy they caught with a sure fire that he had reported stolen.

In all my years of going to shows (20+) I have never seen anyone busted. And very rarely, even a LEO.

Getting denied is not cause for arrest, there are lots of reasons for a denial other than felony conviction, and besides the dealer doesnt even get a reason, just "proceed" "denied" or "delayed"

I cant recall ever seeing anyone arrested at a gunshow either.

yep

I was at 2 shows within the last couple months and have seen tables with one guy talking to like 3-4 others and someone coulda made off with some of his hardware easily. Granted these were long guns in both instances but it would been simple from the amount of people and just No attention by the vendor. Maybe its a Minnesota Nice thing....maybe not, another thing I noticed that 98% of the guys at theses shows are white middle aged males, couple blacks or other minorities walk in...we get the look over. :scrutiny:

Haven't seen anyone arrested.

One guy discharged an airsoft gun once, one of the gas ones that sound a lot like a real gun, and was promptly thrown out.

And yeah, it would be easy to swipe many things from tables at gunshows.

Just asking, but was the fact that they were black relevant to this case? I've seen white guys get arrested at gun shows, too ...

It isn't. It's just the first thing you notice about someone when you look at them. It's impossible not to, it's their freaking skin. The first thing you can notice about someone is what color their skin is, assuming any of it is showing, and it's just the only useful descriptor to make the story a little move vivid in this case.

Y'know, I went down to the Burger King yesterday and, what to my wondering eyes should appear but two blobs of organic matter with irons 'round their pseudopods, held within the rear of the quad-portal, rolling organism transmission device!

Complain about racism, not just random crap. Why does someone have to jump on this bandwagon every single solitary time someone even _considers_ using race to describe someone?

Gah, seriously.

Almost all the arrests I have seen have been for theft. Did see one guy popped for drunk and disorderly at an old Pomona Gun Show back when we had real gun shows in the PRK...

I have no issue with security and cops being all over the big shows. Way too easy to steal and pick pocket with all the thousands milling around. The shows here at stadiums and convention centers make for a pick pocket/car theft/petty theft carnival.

I am in total agreement with you Gunnyskox. Statements like his are why Racism is and always will be prevalent in this country of so many mixed colors and nationalities. And my skin aint white!

Lost a set of sights once.

I was purchasing a set of Novak tritium sights off a dealer and while waiting someone lifted them off the glass top in front of me. Perfect timing we where both distracted as I was digging money out of a pocket and he was turned working one something or another. I don't know who did it but a crouded state fair barn is not always a great place for a gunshow.

PS I don't remember ever looking around down the aisles for black or brown skin.

Saw a 20-something white guy getting detained by the cops at the Austin gunshow last month. Being new to Texas, I was wondering if there was some obscure law I didn't know about that this guy was being busted for.

I said to the cop: "Not to pry into that guy's personal case, but what's the violation?"

Turns out that the guy tried to steal a $10 packet of 9mm tracer rounds off a table. Relieved me greatly, as I didn't want to suddenly get nabbed for buying some obscure type of Texas-banned magazine or ammo unknowingly. Having just moved from CA, I'm enjoying the correct TX legislation, but there are still at least a few laws out there to trip one up.

On topic: I've seen two people arrested at gun shows, one for trying to sell a stolen firearm (just happened to have been stolen from a member of the association sponsoring the show and the serial number was on a list), another for stealing a gun from a table -- identified by a table holder -- at the previous show ..

Off topic:

Throttle back, dude. It's valid to describe someone by skin color if you need them located or race is otherwise necessary to mention, but when skin color is the only descriptive phrase, it begs the question. Not like the original poster also said, "Two fat guys" or "Two old guys" or "Two guys wearing pink shirts."

Statements like his are why Racism is and always will be prevalent in this country of so many mixed colors and nationalities.
Statements like mine? You don't know me, and your statement makes no sense whatsoever. I wasn't being PC, merely asking ...

If they'd been white, would the poster have said, "I saw two white guys getting arrested?"

Have been going to shows for over 25 years now. Maybe 8 or 9 years ago in Indianapolis saw a kid swipe a J frame Smith off a dealers table and try to make it out the door.

The dealer and 3 IPD coppers were chasing him around a table. It was surreal, like something out of a cartoon. I was standing there watching it half expecting the "Pop goes the Weasel" music--"all around the mulberry bush . . ."

Heavyset old guy with beard kicks the kid's shin and trip him. The kid faceplants on the concrete. The pistol comes out of his jacket and the dealer jumps over the rugby scum of cops to retrieve his gun.:D

Guys... please...

I just posted about something I considered to be racist in the political/legal forum, and someone jumped all over me for it... The Tupac thread if anyone is interested in reading it, although IMHO it was pretty much a garbage thread meant to incite a buncha anti-rap crap.

Describing someone as black or white is not anything to consider racism (btw, I am black, so if it didnt offend me, it probably shouldn't offend too many others), just a valid physical description.. Let's just enjoy a nice thread for what it is :)

I saw a guy stealing. And, I told the table "manager"

She retorted, "Go stop him! You saw what he took." To which I responded, "No, I just asked you what you usually set here, becuase this guy just stuck it into his pocket!"

Besides, I'm not a cop. I'm not going to play hero for some dumb $5.00 used piece of crap. I fulfilled my social responsibility. I told her EXACTLY where it was on the table, and exactly into which pocket the exact person put it. Now, call the cop and let them deal with it.

Edited to add:

Give me a break...black, white, male, female, who cares. This is dumb. The gentleman simply described the who, when, where. If that is unethical, I guess we are all unethical. It's a simple fact of life that there are assorted colors of skin. Heaven help us--

DON'T EVER DESCRIBE SOMEONE'S EYE COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MIGHT GET CALLED AN OPTICAL RACIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET OVER IT ALREADY! Go join the ACLU! Or get a life!!!

With all due respect, that's BS. If he had only said that "two guys were being arrested", you could just has easily have gotten torqued because he made a point of specifying the sex of the arrestees which is irrelevant to the case. The bottom line is that if you're looking for an occasion to be offended, you'll always be able to find one.

Heres the real question. If he had said he saw a white guy get arrested, and not a black, would you still have gotten your panties all in a bunch? Seems to me your holding a double standard.

OH no, you've found me out. I am a horrible racist and you've blown my cover. I can no longer deny it. I can only hope that the Internet Political Correctness Justice will spare me an eFlogging. :(
