If he had only said that "two guys were being arrested", you could just has easily have gotten torqued because he made a point of specifying the sex of the arrestees which is irrelevant to the case. The bottom line is that if you're looking for an occasion to be offended, you'll always be able to find one.

Well, how about if he said "two human beings were being arrested"?

Oh, sorry, it's discriminatory on humans. OK, how about "two beings were being arrested"? ;)

Saw two somethings get arrested at the gun show!

And this is probably the first time in my life i've actually seen something get handcuffed (outside of TV/movies).

I'm not sure exactly what they did.

This was at the Richmond, VA show yesterday. I was heading out myself and I saw two somethings being led away in handcuffs by the police. As I walked out I saw them sitting in the back of a cruiser.

Has anyone ever seen something try to steal something at a show or any other kind of criminal behavior?

Ahhh.... that felt nice and correct.

FWIW - I personally feel that interjecting race description in the original posting was unnecessary.

But you can always count on any such thing setting off a rapid string of "offended / counter-offended" replies.

:D"

Maybe I'm just colorblind but I would have said "saw two guys get arrested". Who cares what color they are? You aren't ID-ing them for a BOLO or something.

And yes, reducio ad adsurdum, in fact their sex is also irrelevent but it too is "right there, it's their freekin' genetic makeup".

Also, dames are much less common at gun shows, even less criminal ones, and thus worthy of note.

On a forum courtesy note, it is overweeningly arrogant to claim to know what someone's motive for speaking is, especially to then claim that their stated explanation for their statement is a lie.

Old Dog didn't call anybody racist, just asked if their color was relevant. That's hardly being "PC" or accusing the poster of racism. Chill out and quit seeing offense where none was meant.

Don't know about VA, but here in DE we do a state check also. Guess what, got an unpaid fine, they will come and get you and take you to the JP court just down the street to take care of it. They will cuff you for that also.

Am I the only one that completely read over teh 'black', and didn't notice it? I think the fact that you picked it up meant you were specifically looking for it.

And why use 'guys' in the description? I'm sure women have been arrested at gun shows too. Would it have mattered much to say 'two people were arrested?'

jeff,

It stuck out at me, I think, because it didn't have anything to do with anything else in the post. Like the "gun on the mantlepeice" I became confused as to its relevance. At best a waste of an adjective.

gun shows in Jackson

speaking of which, does anyone know if there is going to be a gunshow sometime soon in the eastern Tennessee area? I head back from beloved OH CANADA... for Christmas, and would like to actually smell some gunoil. Oh, besides the goosehunting I will be doing. For thread relevance... um.... I don't expect to see anyone arrested there. And if its in Memphis, probably alot of white, black, and other skin pigmentation :neener:

Although I wasn't there yesterday, I've been to numerous gun shows at the Showplace and there is usually a fairly diverse crowd (and I wish some of them would launder their bib overalls, too.) My first thoughts upon reading the initial post were to wonder whether the two guys were the middle class type, the gangbanger type or the everpresent middle class but dressed like a gangbanger type?

Seriously, if he'd said two white guys were arrested I'd be curious if they were suits, bubbas or skateboarders and whether they had more tattoos than piercings.

The first thing I always notice about a person is if it's a she.

Black/white, old/young, tall/short, long hair/short hair , beard/clean shaven , well dressed/ dressed like a bum , male/female......etc. These are not racist remarks, just discriptions.......

Having seen very few black people nor anyone arrested at a gun show I was wondering if they gained extra scrutiny just because of their color. So that would be pertainent to the story if it were the case.

Anyhow... I quit gunshows when cops decided to start selling purchase permits there (previously free) and standing around in large groups eyeballing everyone. Nice gig to horn in on. Gotta love that overtime pay.

Yeah, don't use that B word. I was pouring coffee for a guy at work and asked him if he took cream and sugar or liked it BLACK. Someone walking behind the partition only heard that B word and decided we were talking about her.

Friend of mine is Henrico PD... (in Richmond ) He said there was an arrest made ( didn't say how many people involved ) Saturday morning for attempted theft of a handgun. And another Sat afternoon for lying on a ATF yellow form. He said he didn't know of any others.

I'd think it'd be pretty easy to pocket something off of one of the tables, but how moronic would you have to be to try something like that?

Sure, the guy behind the table may not see you, but there could be 20 sets of eyes around you watching you. I wouldn't hesitate to confront someone I see pocketing something if I was sure of what I saw. Tell the dealer what you saw to make sure, call the cops over, and get on with it. Stealing is stealing, and if you see it occuring and do nothing about it, you're no better than the thief.

...back when we had real gun shows in the PRK...

Ain't that the truth. Went to one today and the attendance was so bad most of the vendors started packing it in around 3:00 (it was supposed to close at 5:00). Lot's of way over priced mil-surp rifles and tons of non-gun related junk. I think there was more cops there than shoppers.

More of the same???

Just as an aside that may or not be germaine to the discussion, but didn't I read, some time ago, that the BATF and Richmond police were (illegally) hassling people at gun shows... at the request of the BATF???

Perhaps this is more of that!!!

Of course, the MSM won't report on that, because it's proof that laws ARE ENFORCED at gun shows. The media likes to portray them as some sort of third-world market of seedy smugglers, remember?
