I am contemplating building a SBR AR.
I do have a NFA trust, but have never filled out the paperwork myself, so it's a little daunting. Wherever I bought my previous items from helped insure the paperwork was filled out correctly.
I have a couple of stripped, never had a part on them, AR lowers. A couple of them I purchased as "Pistols", in anticipation of future issues a few years ago (how it was written on the 4473). If I understand correctly, I can purchase a pistol kit, and build it on one of these lowers. When the paperwork comes in from the ATF with the stamp, I can then put a shoulder stock on it. Correct? Does it matter if I use a pistol lower, or can I use one of the rifle lowers that has never been assembled??
Second, I think I need to fill out an ATF form 1. From reading the forums I know it's advisable to list a couple of calibers and barrel lengths on the paperwork to cover any future modifications. Right?
Third, is a trust considered an individual or a business entity on the form??
How do I list the description? Where to I say I want to build a SBR from an existing, serial numbered, commercially produced lower?? What information do I need to put in there?
I think since I am using a trust, I need to fill out items 1-9, 10 and 11.
Next step is to fill out the 5330 from and send it in with two copies of the Form 1 and the $200.
Am I on the correct track here???
Finally don't I have to have the receiver engraved with the trust name and SBR???
Thanks,
