I am so used to my old Colt detective

Me too. Minimal muzzle flip and little recoil make for an easily controlled gun

SP101 fans find the weight of that gun to be an advantage, while others are trying to shave off another 2-3 ounces off their "too heavy" Airweights

Some people pick a gun that they like to carry. Some carry a gun that they like to shoot

Save your cash and your hand. I've got a S&W 649 .357 and it is sweet. Yes, it's a little heavier but I carry it all day long and really don't notice. Even shooting .357 loads isn't painful. I shot my buddys lightweight Taurus snubie with 38+p and after 3 shots I had had enough, even my Smith with .357s wasn't that bad. I bought mine a a gun show for $590 and love it. IWB, pocket carry, doesn't matter.....and with .357, you know you have what it takes to get the job done. It's important to have a gun that you like to shoot....practice, practice and practice.

Too few people here have mentioned shooting technique - if you hurt your hand firing a shot or two from a scandium frame .357, you're doing it wrong. Review your technique - grip, position of your fingers, trigger squeeze - it's all different when firing a J frame.

After being taught the proper technique, my experience with my first J frame when from 2 of 5 shots on paper and a throbbing hand to all 5 shots in a 4" ring, and I felt like I could do it all day long.
