Took my new SCAR17S out for the first time yesterday.

Man, that's a fun gun to shoot. No stoppages, and great groups with the iron sights.

Got it home and gave it a cleaning. I was stunned. There was very, very little fouling present after 300 shots. Was shooting surplus Malaysian 7.62 NATO, the same stuff which utterly blackens the insides of my G3.

The SCAR is perhaps the cleanest shooting semi-auto rifle I've shot.

Seems to be a common theme with FN weapons. The FN FS2000 is also super clean, as is the PS90, and FN Five Seven.

Great family of firearms!

Sounds really cool. Now you just need to post some pics.

I do have to say, the HK-91/G3's are dirty rifles just as much as the AR's are. That fluted chamber lets gasses and carbon get back into the receiver.

I found the same to be true when I got my M1A. I was used to the M-16A2 I had been issued, and the Century HK-91 clone I used to have. Compared to those a piston gun barely gets dirty.

Im also a huge FN fan, i wish i could get a Five seveN but for the immediate future im going to have to settle for an FNX-9 or FNP-45(ill be happy with either, but the Five seveN is what i really want

I like FN too. I have a DSA STG58 that I modified into an SDM rifle (it is more accurate than you think, but it takes effort, time and money). I had an FN M16A2 in basic training, carried a SAW as well as the new one (Mk46?) for a while (that gets VERY dirty!) and used their 240B which you can clean with sand and water, and their Mk19. I think they built some of our M2's also. Every single one was just great. Well built, well designed.

As for the FN pistol, I'd get the package on Impact Arms website if you can have suppressors --they have one with just a suppressor, and one with a suppressor and built in reflex sights. Both are the .45 pistols. In my opinion, that new FN .45 is WAY better than that 5.7. I really wanted a 5.7 too until I did my homework on that round; I won't say more than that for fear of starting a war.

As for SCAR17... Man I want one of those. When we can swing a 7.62AR, that'll be the variant I'd like to go with (I consider the SCAR an AR derivative). I'll be getting the AAC suppressor soon for use with other rifles so being able to use it on the SCAR would be a plus. I want to get a barrel made for .260 also, I hear they change quick. Geissele also is making or makes a trigger for it.

Good to hear it runs clean and shoots well. Now I heard about two problems with it and wonder what you think. I read a while back it came with a plastic pin in the stock that shears off when you open and fold it --there was a metal aftermarket fix, but FN was supposed to address this. Then there was a complaint about the safety switch I think. Again, there is a metal aftermarket fix. The stock shearing was a legitimate complaint it seemed, not sure about the safety (perhaps the only problem was that it wasn't metal?).

Dunno, haven't had any problems with it yet, stryker. The stock release button is harder than hell to push, though. I mean you gotta put some elbow grease on it to depress the thing before it'll fold.

I had a lot of fun with my buddy's SCAR17. Surprisingly soft shooter.

Stryker-just brought back memories, I praised the lord for days after we got a 240B, I was so dang sick of fooling around with our rusted 60

Thanks for sharing. I have never fired the SCAR 17. My friends tell me that the recoil is more 5.56-like because of the muzzle brake.

I can say that the SCAR 16 is also a clean shooter. The "dirt" has to go somewhere. When I took out the piston it was not filthy by any means. In the 60,000 round dust test the SCAR 16 had only 226 stoppages.

Not to shabby. Post some pictures of your targets if you can/will/want!
