SCAR for NRA matches?

I've been scouring the internet, but I cannot seem to find any information on this topic. The SCAR in now a US service rifle so does it qualify or will it need to be the "general" service rifle? As we know, the MK17 seems to be more prevalent and the 16 might not be used in the future. Seems that it would be odd to only allow one of the variants. Is it usable in "match rifle"?

Any insight would be great.

The SCAR is NOT a service rifle as defined by NRA or CMP rules.

You may fire your SCAR in NRA matches. Match Rifle class if iron sights used, Tactical Rifle class if optic is used.

Has anyone used one in a High Power Match? How did it perform?

I haven't seen anyone using anything other than an AR-15, M1A or a spacegun/bolt gun in NRA Highpower matches locally.

As W.E.G. stated, you can use the SCAR as a Match Rifle with irons, but then you'd be competing against custom Model 70s, 700s, AR-based space guns and the Tubb 2000s. It would work to get you started, though I imagine you'd want to go with one of the worked-over space guns if you wanted to shoot match rifle or you'd get an AR-15 to shoot Service Rifle in the long run.

If this is something you're thinking about buying and want to shoot Highpower, I'd suggest get a WOA AR-15 upper and an A2 lower with a two-stage trigger. If you already have the SCAR, show up at a Highpower match and shoot. I know at my local matches we'd welcome you in and find a way to get you shooting.

keep in mind the term "service rifle" has nothing to do with current combat rifles. It is simply a way of defining a rifle based on a current military platform in order to keep all contestants on the same playing field. In other words the current AR15 A2 that nearly every competitor has is basically a twin to every other rifle on the line. The winner is less defined by his rifle at the end of the day and more on his performance as everyone is equally equipped.

The SCAR will not keep up, and neither will any of the gas piston systems. Too many reciprocating parts and that leads to variables that influence group potential. Your SCAR would however be legal as an NRA match rifle; not very competitive but legal.

I've been competing in High Power for a few years, so I'm familiar with some of the rules. We've seen the A3/A4 flat top become legal, so I was curious if the scar may some day be added.

The reason I want to use my SCAR is because I find high power matches to be a great way to test the limits of a gun as well as get good training time in a controlled, yet competitive environment. For the price of a SCAR, I could get all kinds of race guns, but I'm looking to become familiar and accurate with real world weapons. Currently I compete with a 14.5 inch (16 with pinned break) AR15 carbine and I'm able to score Marksman to Expert.

I guess some people do high power for different reasons, but I do it for fun and good training.
