SCCY?

I think my big complaint with the trigger is that you can't really 'feel' where it resets. I assume that this is because it's an extension type that you pull to provide energy to the hammer and since it doesn't push on the trigger or the sear it feels 'dead' to me no matter where it is after it's been fired. But that's just my pet theory

 

bought one as I liked the second strike capability. the pins in the frame kept drifting and I traded it at a gunshow for a decent spotting scope. it was not bad but the trigger was awful. don't miss it at all.

 

I've never been the brightest bulb around. So, What is RSA?

A friend owns one. It's a single shot pistol with one mag and less than reliable with the other magazine. It will choke on cheap fmj and I've never seen it run jhp. There's no way I'd ever trust my life to their particular gun. I told him to send it back in for their warranty service but he never has. I found it to recoil uncomfortably for a 9mm and the trigger isn't great so it's not much of a range gun either. Hard pass for me.

 

If a person is needing a less expensive pistol , the Taurus G2,G3c are hard to beat for the money..

 

^^ This. Slightly bigger, but you get the striker-firing trigger that everyone seems to want, still includes second-strike capability, and comes with 12-round magazines.

 

There were times in the past when the CPX was on sale for $199.99 They're usually $10 to $15 cheaper than a Taurus G3c

The G3c in stainless is $25 to $35 more expensive than the black finish. The CPX doesn't have that price bump for stainless so you could get a stainless CPX for $50 cheaper than a stainless G3c.

 

I bought one last fall, wish I hadn't. Junk IMO

 

I've been wanting to try the new DVG-1 red dot. I don't care for the size & shape of the grip of the CPX models but the DVG is claimed to be smaller.
I haven't found a LGS that carries it yet.

 

First I have seen the DVG1 ... grip similar to
380 model and striker fired .. optic ready MRSP 289

YouTube reviews look promising--even favorable comments on the trigger-- but I don't watch enough of them to know who's legit and who's a shill.

 

Hadn’t seen one in the wild ... I wonder if this pistol is going to replace the CPX models ?

 

I've often wondered whether the SCCY was a viable, low cost gun. After reading a lot of the comments it appears that the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies. I don't think I see one in my future.

Alot of reasons a gun will explode.... most from no fault of the gun ...Back in the early 90’s , I saw a Ruger Redhawks barrel fly down range ... with my own eyes .. never heard the outcome....

 

I have never owned or shot a Sccy. One of my relatives does. When she first got it I talked her into going to a 200 round class with me. She had a few failures to feed on the first or second magazine. One of the instructors came over & sprayed a little CLP on the rails. It ran like a champ for the rest of the day. It didn't even occur to me that her husband would let her bring it to the class without cleaning or at least lubricating it.

I think they are a decent low cost option. I don't really want one but I don't disrespect them. If my memory serves me correctly. The company was started by some former Kel-Tec employees & they basically cloned the old P-11. I know they have different generations, there have been upgrades but that was their beginning. I had a P-11. It was a light easy to carry double stack 9 with a lousy trigger. I decided I wanted something nicer. The little P-11 worked though.

 

Have a few more...the pink gun was just the first one that comes up.

 

The reset is as far as the trigger can travel forward. The trigger feels dead because it is until you let it fully return. This was the main reason the gun didn’t quite work for me, because when I’d try to run it fast the back side of my trigger finger would hit the guard and prevent a full return. Slow fire was no problem, but a string of 3-4 rapid shots would almost invariably lead to at least 1 short-stroke.

 

The broken guns may have had a squib. And they were fired with the squib in the barrel. I had a 45 acp casing blow out. In my RIA 1911. It blew the mag apart. Rest of the gun survived. I think i had a double charge of tite-group.

 

Yeah basically there is an audible click when you hit the end but it's not very loud and unlike some other guns there's no difference in the feel of the trigger as it resets, I can feel it building up tension before it fires but after nothing. I have narrow fingers so the trigger guard is fine, actually the overall ergonomics are decent for me.

The only complaining I can do in that regard is the red dot interferes with operating the slide; but again I mostly just noodle around with a single action .22 so that is really probably something I could get beyond if bulk 9mm ever comes back.

 

(This post IS about SCCY handguns, bear with me). My 2nd handgun was a KelTec P11 which I got for about $250 NIB. Actually I ended up with two of them but, long story short, after one developed rust after prancing to the car in the rain with it in my belt, I replaced it with a Shield and eventually sold it after sitting in my safe for 5 years. The LGS I sold it to offered only $125 at best and I was like "why?" and they said SCCY had since come out with some newer similar guns that simply competed so well in-category with the P11, that P11's value was severaly knocked down by them. This LGS has given me some great deals in the past and usually seemed quite fair in trades with them. Last time (this February) they even gave me more than I paid for two guns I traded! The owner is soft spoken and very reasonable and charges only $25 for a transfer. I've known him for 10 years now, so I believe the SCCY story is for real. KelTec's P11 used to be the quintessential lightweight, uber-concealable, DA, "hammerless" mostly reliable BUDGET 9mm. With 10+1 it had more rounds than anything in that category. But the new SCCYs came along and just pushed the P11 right off the hill apparently. And KelTec's PF9 also eclipsed the older P11 -even though it held fewer rounds it was more reliable and user friendly. Maybe a a SCCY/PF9 comparison would be revealing. SCCY seems to have really grabbed this market away from the other budget runners in this category. I have also never heard anything really bad about them. They are going strong, and apparently it aint just the low price. They must be doing something right. I dont feel I need one as long as I have a Shield, but if a brand new one popped up for STUPID low price I might grab it.
