Hey all - going to run a course that includes hits on 10" plates out to 300, so I picked up a Vortex 3x magnifier to add to my AR with Eotech. I got it on the gun today; I've got the magnifier mounted as far back as I can for good eye relief, and the Eotech as close to the magnifier as I can while still being able to access the buttons on the rear. I did use the shim to mount it higher - everything seems to line up but not certain about that.

This does put the Eotech halfway on the upper rail and halfway on the foreend rail; is this OK? Figure it should be stable but I still feel funny about it.

Regarding usage - I had figured I'd run much of the course with the magnifier flipped to the side, then pop it up for the distance shots, but even today just in the house I realized I was getting a little spoiled by the 3x; for those of you who run them, do you pretty much leave it up the whole time? When it's to the side, it does take a pretty big chunk out of my field of view, but I know it won't be as fast as the Eotech by itself. I did try to aim with both eyes open, but at least at short distances (my living room), if I aimed at an object looking only through the magnifier, the reticle wasn't appearing to be over the same spot with both eyes open. Maybe I can fix this by "sighting in" the optic; I know the POI isn't affected by this but perhaps I can just "move" where everything is appearing.

Thanks for sharing your experiences - I sure appreciate it!

I own the 3x vortex and you do not need the magnifier. What I recommend is that you zero your ar with what ever bullet weight you are going to use. I use 75gr bullets for my zero and using the hash marks on the site for 200 and 300 have been dead on...just my 2 cents.
