My Sig P365xl has a slide that’s cut for mounting an optic. For a number of reasons I’m considering mounting one on it. What’s a good one that would fit this gun? Are there different features that are essential, or ones to avoid?

TIA for any info.

Sig makes one for this pistol. I have one on mine and it hasn't given me any problem. The only annoying thing about is I find it difficult to change dot brightness but maybe I am just fumble fingered. Otherwise it's a great sight.

Edited to add: My daughter has the same Sig with the same sight on it and it has given no problem. Both of ours came with the sight. It is shake awake and 2 minute shut down after no movement. You can't get much simpler to use than this.

As a relative newbie RDS shooter I am not well versed on all the options, but check to make sure you can change the battery without having to remove the RDS from the slide.

The dot is not as big as the picture makes it seem. It’s very easy to adjust brightness also. I’m pretty impressed with it. This model has to be taken off to change battery, but it’s not like they need changed very often and it’s only 2 screws. No big deal. It’s very accurate and has held its zero for awhile now.

Note that the RDS prevents use of the original iron sights. That is fine for a range gun. If you will be using this for self defense, either EDC or home defense, I highly recommend swapping the iron sights for taller suppressor-height sights so you can use them if you have a problem with the dot.

The P365XL is precut for optics which fit the Shield RMSc footprint. There are quite a few to choose from:

Sig RomeoZero
Sig RomeoZero Elite
Shield RMSc
Shield SMSc
Crimson Trace CT1500 series
Holosun 407K
Holosun 507K
Swampfox Sentinel
Riton MPRD-3 v2

I’m sure there are others. Most of these have bottom-loading batteries, meaning you have to remove the optic from the pistol to change the battery. Some, such as the Holosuns, have a side-loading battery tray. Some just have a dot. Some have a reticle or circle-dot option. Some are polymer, some are aluminum. Some have polymer lenses, some have glass lenses. Some are shake-awake, some are auto-off, some are auto-brightness. All are adjustable for windage and elevation.

I have a Holosun 507K, a Sig RomeoZero, and a Riton MPRD. They all work, they all hold zero, they were all easy enough to install. Lots and lots of YouTube reviews out there, and there are tons of posts on the SigTalk forum on P365x/XL optics if you’re looking for owner opinions.

Hope this helps! Let us know what you go with.

I went with the Swampfox Sentinel and I'm pleased with the product and fast shipping from the company.

I believe the Romeo fits the Sig.

One would hope so. Sig makes the Romeo.

It is mentioned a few times of where the battery gets installed. An important feature sometimes and others not so much. Optics that have solar cells (Like Holosun) will have insane battery life run times. Chances are you will be moving a sight to another gun before it runs out of battery. And you can change it then. Other optics (without a solar cell) and you leave it on all the time so you don't have to fiddle with the settings will die faster. Just nature of the beast. For those optics it is important where the battery goes and if you can access it without removal.
