School me on this Scope/Rifle Combination

First Thank You in advance for any help you can offer.
Several questions and some Math here and I need some advice from someone with more experience with scopes that I have.
I have a Rifle here that when I measure from my eye to the beginning of the rail is 14 inches. The rail ends at 20 inches giving me 6 inches of total rail to work with.
This leaves me with two options I am looking at;
A) A Scout Scope.
B) A Pistol Scope.
Matching the Eye Relief to the rail distances, balance and taking in to account possible Paralex issues; I have all but eliminated Pistol scopes as they would require (as I understand it) more distance than I have rail, without effecting the forward balance of the rifle dramatically.
Does this make sense?
Okay If this makes sense I need a Scope with a minimum of approximately 10 inches of Eye Relief. Considering the focal end of the scope (closest to my eye) will hang from the rear most ring a minimum of 1 1/2 to 2 inches.
Taking this in to account, would this work?

what rifle is it and what are your going to do with it. I am not a fan of scout scopes on hunting rifles.

Its an experiment.
I had a Tanker Garand and sent it off to Shuff's and had the Scout mount put on it.
The purpose is to get the best accuracy out of a small .308 autoloader, mostly fun, but with the right clips it would be a fine hunting rifle.
I'm really curious if this scope will woirk on this rifle as per my figures.
