Hi folks

I have a K31 and I'm thinking of scoping it. I'm currently thinking of using one of those scout mounts that replaces the current rear notch site.

This type of scout monut requires a high eye relief scope. I unfortunately don't know much about scopes. Also a lot of online advertisements (like CDNN) don't list the eye relief of the scopes.

Can people make some recomendations the best place to find a good selection of high eye relief scopes? I went to Cabela's.com and they had the nice ability to sort on eye relief. According to their web site, the only scopes they sell with high eye relief (> 5 inches) is one Leopold.

I've read that I want a high eye relief rifle scope and not a pistol scope.

Any advice?

Oh, what will I be doing with this? Punching paper. That's all.
Thanks

Pistol scope will do you just fine. I've put together several C&R pseudoscouts and have used pistol scopes on all of them. I usually buy my stuff from Midway.

I have used the Burris Scout scope and was very pleased. I'm sure the Leupold is just as good or better. I tried a couple of pistol scopes and the eye relief was not right, but maybe I tried the wrong ones.

WAIT DO NOT PUT A PISTOL SCOPE ON THERE!!!

The reason has more to do with parallax than eye relief. The parallax is generally set at the scope factory for some arbitrary range. For handgun scopes it's around 50yds whereas the scout rifle types are set for a more realistic 100yds. The K31 has a much revered record for accuracy, there is no reason to mess around useing a scope that's not set up for your intended purpose. Check our makarov.com under the mosin nagant section. There is an NCstar 2-7x32 retailing for about $70.00. The Burris and Leupold scopes are very expensive considering that they are fixed power scopes regulated for 100yd parallax. After mounting your scope I think you'll find that you'll want to raise the comb on your stock to allow you to comfortably line your eye up with the scope. One last tip, the scout type scopes work great with both eyes open especially when tracking a moving object.

If you'd be happy with a NcStar, and I have several, I've had good dealings with thsse guys. http://www.crankyfarmer.com/pistolscope.html

Here's my current scout, with a pistol scope. I've never had a problem with it.
