Good 'ol Chuck Schumer is upset the anti-gun crew isn't moving fast enough in DC, so he went on record asking retailers in America to simply STOP selling "assault weapons" to people until Congress gets to vote and outright ban them. Please stores! Stop selling merchandise. Wait until we ban them!

On Sunday, New York Senator Chuck Schumer asked retailers to take action before Congress.

"Today, I'm urging our country's major gun retailers like Walmart and Sports Authority to suspend sales of modern assault-style weapons until Congress is able to fully consider and vote on legislation to curb gun violence," Schumer said.

hahaha....yeah, walmart is going to stop selling the best selling and most profitable firearm in the country....

they are selling off the shelves like hot cakes at a HUGE markup.....walmart may be a lot of things, but bad businessmen they are not.

lets see, how much debt does the government have vs. how much of a profit does that corporation make on a yearly basis? Im sure Walmart values the Senators comments.

A bill hasn't even been introduced yet in the Senate or House. I hope Boehner doesn't even bring the bill up for debate. He needs to learn a thing or two from Harry Reid. Harry Reid has allowed the President to continue to spend based on stimulus levels. Everything is cost plus inflation without an approved budget.

Should be simple enough. There aren't any more in the pipeline to be had. :p

My thoughts exactly.

The .gov is the last source that any business organization would look to as a model of success.

Why would a business even consider a recommendation from a politician to stop selling merchandise that politician wants to ban?

hmmmmmm... Hold them till we ban them??? and then what???

Write off the losses that you cannot sell due to our new law. Equals a whole lot of tax writeoffs for our wonderful cash strapped government.

Makes me wonder if that's a signal of sheer desperation from Shumer, because he recognizes very little is likely to come of the present sound and fury from him and his coreligionists on gun control.

The demand right now for semi-automatic sporting rifles is so high right now, Wal-Mart, Dicks, et al, stopping the sale of the firearms will probably have no impact on the total sales.

The big retailers will not take delivery on items they won't sell so the inventory will be made available to other retailers. The manufacturers and distributers will cash in as best they can.

In my opinion, the question will be for Wal-mart will be the economic effect to them of the policy of stopping the sales of the sporting rifles. I doubt they will bring in more customers and sales as a result of the policy but they might lose some sporting good customers.

Of course, my opinion and $5 will get you an overpriced, designer coffee.

Anyway, Wal-Mart is just not the same since ole Sam past away.

Thank you for the translation. I needed a laff this morning.

Schumer -
Here Walmart, I'm going to take actions that will drastically increase demand for one of your products; demand will be so high you won't be able to get enough from your distributors to meet it. People will line up to buy every one you can put on your shelves.

Please don't sell any of these products.

Walmart -
Sure thing Chuck, we'll just leave this giant pile of profits we could make on the table and irritate millions of our customers because you ask us to. [/sarcasm]

So why all the bad-mouthing of panic-buyers if the overall effect on the market and retailers is a positive thing?

But couldn't Walmart simply sell them to the military so the guns could be placed back into active duty from whence the came? Oh, they're not actually assault rifles and were never used in active duty? Uhm...

And in the news this morning, Biden plans to have a meeting with Dems only. Reps are to be sent out for beer n chips, or something. Wasn't it Biden and Obama complaining about a divided Congress? I'm confused this morning and I don't think it's the typical Monday morning bug.

It's the panicking part, not the buying part, that gets annoying after a while.

Walmart sells Modern Sporting Rifles... They dont know what this Jackwagon is talking about.

how much debt does the government have vs. how much of a profit does that corporation make on a yearly basis?

16.45 Trillion vs. 120 billion. At current figures, 100% of Wal Marts gross profits would take 137 years to pay down the national debt.
