Can someone tell me what gun has a one inch outside diameter round receiver? I want to order a scope base that fits something this size and try it on my one inch diameter slug barrel. Nothing in my gun safe is this size, and having a hard time getting specs of other guns out there. My Interarms Mini Mark X is about 1.2" but still looking for something closer to 1.0". A base designed for a one inch round receiver should contour nicely on the barrel which is almost exactly one inch OD.

If you are curious as to what I am trying to do, please read on.

Trying to find the easiest way to use my new red dot scope on my Mossberg 500 rifled barrel with iron sights. If I put a base on the 500 receiver I'll have to remove the base to see the beads when I swap back to the bird barrel. I think I can mount the red dot scope to one base of a two base weaver style system. So I would like to replace the rear iron sight with a single slot weaver style base. The Williams rear sight is easily removed exposing the cross cut groove in the barrel with a corresponding free floating nut in the groove. The Williams iron sight attaches to the nut with a single screw. I would like to screw a weaver style base to this nut and see how well it holds. Then every time the barrel comes off, the scope goes with it and I will have a good view of the beads on the bird barrel when it goes on. It's a 20 gauge youth by the way. Kid's deer gun someday hopefully.

Thanks

Pony up for the cantilever slug barrel, you'll be glad you did. I doubt the jury-rigged set-up you describe will hold up to recoil. You'd be better off silver soldering it in, and I'm not confident that would hold either with that amount of weight. Then there is getting it on straight, either way. The cantilever rifled barrel is a way better way to go.

Yes I am concerned that the single screw holding the base to the barrel would not be as good as the two screws holding the base to the receiver, but I was impressed by how solid the iron sight was held in position. I figured it would be worth a try for a $10 base if I knew which one to order. The cantilever base barrel would have been nice, but just a bit over budget at close to $200. I'll just put a base on the receiver, and take it on and off if there isn't one to try on the barrel. Thanks for the reply.

My Weaver bases are aluminum. Get a 1" pipe. Tape some emery paper to pipe . Run base back and forth till base fits.

Thanks 243-
Not finding a suitable receiver to base my order on at first made me think about "machining" that front mini mauser base somehow. The rod and emery cloth is a good idea, so I'll try that. It should be even easier now that I looked at that mauser again. The rear base actually has a tighter radius, so I can order one of those for $5. It's an aluminum Weaver so it should be a quick sanding job to make it fit and give this idea a chance. I did not see that barrel adapter before. I'll try something like that if I decide to put the red dot in front of the pump. I think I will try to keep it closer to receiver for the first try. I don't have any experience shooting these types of red dot sights, so I may decide to reposition it later. Thanks for the input. I think I have a way forward now. Maybe I can get a pic up of the finished product.

Resurrecting this thread because I had some success and maybe someone else will try this some day. I was unable to "hand machine" a base with adequate precision, and without access to expensive milling equipment I almost gave up on this. I started looking for muzzle loader and handgun bases that might work and happened to notice my Ruger Mark I pistol sitting in the safe and wondered if anyone was putting scopes on these. Long story short (and after some emailing with various manufactures) the Ruger Mark pistols have the receiver I was looking for and it was right in my own safe. I ordered a base made by Ruger from Midway. There is not much for two piece bases here, but the one piece base is actually better because there are several slots and screw holes to pick from so I was able to chop off the base at the most useful spot and get a longer base than most two piece systems, thereby engaging more of the scope to the base. I got an aluminum one for $19.
Some helpful notes (see pics): The barrel nut which holds the Williams iron sight was filed down so the corners did not protrude out of the dovetail slot in the barrel. The supplied screws with the Ruger base are the same 6-48 thread as the Williams nut. They are about .015" too long so I filed the screw a little.
It seemed pretty solid after some locktite and 18 inch pounds of torque on the screw. Still need to test fire but other bases have a single screw, so I think it will work. Got some Hornady Custom Lite Sabots, and hoping the ported barrel will give me an easy shooting slug gun, which can now be swapped to a bird gun in the field in less than a minute.
