Just wondering if anyone uses a scope on thier .22 rifle? If so what kind and size. I am thinking about getting a scope for my Marlin .22LR. It will be used for squirrel hunting and target/plinking. Thanks!

I have a Tasco 3-9x40 scope that is really really good. I use it on Marlin and Ruger .22, and I use one on an AR15. I'm not an optics snob.

Scooter72,

I'm a squirel huntin nut! Got a bunch of .22's to hunt em' with. Bushnell 3 x 9, Simmions 44 Mag 3 x 12, Tasco Golden Antler Wide View 3 x 9and 2 x 7, Burris 3 x 12.

My "newest" sits atop a Savage Mark II Target model. Its a Bushnell 3 x 9 Airgun scope. It has target knobs and can focus down to 7 yards, I have it zeroed for 7,25,and 50 yards. Have the different "zeros" make on labeling tape on the top of the scope. Near or farther out, I can hold point on.

Works really well and isn't very expensive. Got it through Cabela's.

Hope this helps.....Mike

I have a Barska 8-32X50 With mil dot. I bought last year in binoculars.com and its wonderfull. Very cheap (89 $) and strong.

Bye!

My Marlin Model 60 currently wears a 3-9x Tasco Pronghorn that I got on sale for $40. Shoots ridiculously (dime sized, 10 shots) small groups at 50 yards. So I may try one of the "high-powered" Barskas, just for giggles:evil: , to see if I can make even smaller groups. At 9 power I'm not QUITE able to see as well as I would like.

I used a Red Arrow 4X32 with duplex reticle in Williams low mounts on my Browning BL-22, and was completely satisfied with it...However, I will be building an 'Oh my God' accurate 10-22, and intend to use a 3-12X44 with illuminated reticle, so I can see them moles & field mice at 100 yards...

While there are several excellent scopes on the market, I think intent rules. What do you want to shoot? And, at what distance? If you plan to shoot rabbits at 25 feet, why have a scope?! If you plan to shoot varmints out to 225 yards (the max I have taken a woodchuck with a single head shot) yes, a scope is a good idea. I used a 4X with A.O. and target turrets for that shot, mounted on a Ruger 10/22 HB. That rifles/scope set up could maintain 1.5" groups at 225 yards all day long with Rem. blue box target and Rem Thunderbolts.

Take your pick. If you want the top-of-the-line, Shepherd scopes has one calibrated to 500 yards. That scope, however, at $600.00 is rather extreme. Furthermore, they have been on the market for nearly 20 years. Exploitation of $$$! I can live without the Shepherd until they hit the $299.00 range.

Like most cheapsters I know, I went through the POS cheap scope phase with high powered rifles before a Simmons on a 7 mag taught me the lesson. So, I replaced that Simmons, got it fixed, it wound up on my least used .22. I have a 3x9 bushnell with a range compensator on my old Remington 512X. It was a decent scope, don't even remember why I replaced it. Is a 32mm objective, might have been the reason. But, the range thing is neat. I can set it on 400 and it's dead on at 100 yards or I can set it on 200 and it's dead on a 25 with CB shorts. Otherwise, just zeroed, it's on at 25 with LRs.

I love this little 1.5x4.5 compact Bushnell I had first on a sporterized 7mm Spanish Mauser (okay, a Bubba gun:cool: ), but sold that gun, kept the scope and put it on my scoped SKS. But, then, I bought a lighted reticule cheap scope for that gun (it's actually a decent scope and I don't worry about the caliber hurting it) and put the 1.5x4.5 on my little AR7 for the time being until such time as I might need it on another big caliber.

My 10/22 had irons, my only iron sighted gun and I'm keeping it that way. My new .22 mag Remington 597 had a really nice Bushnell 3x9x40 on it. I'll keep that one on it for now.

So, anyway, all my rimfires that have scopes except for the new 597 are cast off cheap scopes from bigger guns I got during my ignorant cheap scope phase. :D
