I've got a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 on order. I'm thinking about putting a Burris Short Mag 4x scope on it. I'd rather have a 1-4x, but the vari power scopes are so much more expensive than the fixed power.

Good idea? Bad idea? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I put a Nikon 2x7 compact on mine.

It's a low/midrange quality scope, but it fit the rifle and fit the budget. Not perfect, but it gets the bullets where the need to be.

I vote for a Nikon Prostaff 2x7. I have the 3-9 and find it to be by far, the best optics in its price range. You can always find them on Ebay for much less $$$ than catalogs.

2x7??

Never saw a 7mm scope tube. I am a nitpicky bastard and will assume you mean 2 power to 7 power variable scope. That would, of course, be 2-7, not 2x7.
Anyway, I recently bought a CZ carbine, and added a Nikon 1.5-4.5x20 Monarch Gold rifle scope. It was the best balance for me, and therefore the perfect addition to a really great rifle.

If you'll pardon the rhyme, a Leupold 1.75x-6x/32 VXIII would suit that rifle to a T.

I put a Bushnell 4-12X40 AO on mine. Be sure and get the AO feature or you will end up buying again. Go with the best line of Bushnell your budget can afford. Banner and Trophy series are fairly economical.

I have two of those, and with factory rings and mounts, the 3.9.32 size scopes really work out great, and do not interfere with the rear site.

Not to pick the nitpicky in our group but if there is a convention on the subject it must be a weak one.

While Midway and Midsouth use the - between powers at least one outfit (Natchez) uses the X.

Is there a reference you can provide on the subject - vs. X..?

Scope for the 527

I choose a Leupold 2.5 x 20mm Ultraligaht w/Heavy Duplex. Weighs only 6.5 ozs. & 8" in length with their mounts made for the CZ527. This is considereed a short range brush rifle and with this scope target aquisition is very fast. Looks great on the rifle too! Not so big as to look out of place and kept the overweight including mount under 6 1/2 pounds.

Do the rings come with the rifle or do I have to buy them seperately?

CZ 527's that come with iron sights DO NOT come with rings, the models without sights do come with rings. I bought burris medium rings they work fine for a redfiels but are too short for most other scopes (ocular bolt knob interferance)

I really want a very small, lightweight scope and the 2.5x sounds good. I'm also looking real hard at the LX-II 1-4x20.

I picked up my 527C this morning (oh, it handles nicely!), so this weekend I'm going to get real serious about making a final decision on a scope.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
