Scope for Hunting rifle?

It is all about your budget and requirements. Just pick something that fits.
Me, I have decided to throw down for a thermal. I have coyotes and critters around the farm that need to get dispatched. I cannot see them without the thermal. So my requirement is "need to see and shoot in the dark," Requirement.

To me, the Zeiss v4 and Leupold vx5hd weren’t even close to the swaros
Which proves the point everyone’s eyes are different. I see well through Leupold and Zeiss. I flat out don’t see well through Swarovski. I’m not saying they make bad scopes, they make excellent scopes. But I’ve looked through a bunch and see better through a VX-2 than a Z5.

Wow. I have mostly Leupolds, and bought them for what I considered decent glass, but mostly for the caps. I love those alumina caps.

Has anyone ever used MK Machining? I'm looking at the Athlon, but refuse to have bad flip caps. I would literally buy a different scope if I can't get good caps. These guys will make you flip caps for whatever scope you want for $75, that look really similar to Aadland. Just wondering if anyone has used them.

I called Aadland, after searching for a number for an hour and left a message, then called Tenebraex, and left a message. I sent an email to both on their site. Tenebraex replied to my email and gave me a pdf of all the info they need to see if they may have something that will fit. Aadland has had zero response. MK Machining answered the phone, talked to me, and told me they can do whatever I need. If they have to make one for me, they will. For $75. I'm impressed.

Not sure how I found them, but sure glad I did, maybe.... has anyone used them?

Do you wear Hai Karate?
I had to google Hai Karate, if that says anything. Not much of a cologne wearer, but I do like Conquest Scents.... I bought a little devise that puts puffs of estrus into the air while I'm hunting, I used to just have to put it on my boots and on trees and stuff. My cologne smells like piss, probably similar to Hai Karate...

This thing is pretty cool by the way. I have a stand on a hill and I got busted by a buck coming behind me at my eye level. He stomped and snorted, so I gave a couple puffs of that vaporizer with the remote it comes with, and he calmed down and went about his business. Proof enough for me. I've never been busted at 10 yards, and not seen a white tail until then. Also, one of the oil cartridges lasted me all season.

I are confoozed...... I had to Google that too damn near snorted coffee laughing at that add....

I've got the bell diameter for my Midas BTR written down at home I just ordered a bunch of cheap caps for them not too long ago. I know it's the same as the Bushnell Forge 50 mm scopes....

I hate cheap caps. I'll never buy another butler creek, or similar. I hope someone on here knows of MK Machining.. if not, I'm still going to give them a try. I've decided on the Athlon Midas HMR. Seems like the right choice for me. I don't shoot all year long, not a plinker and not a weekend warior range guy, but my shots are important. Not as important as a competition guy.... I will be fine with that scope and it'll probably be much better than I think. It checks every box for me: illuminated, 2.5-15x, and supposedly has great turrets and good glass.

I'll take that saved money and buy a rifle for my now 11 year old next year... he's growing up quickly and is starting to get stout. I'll probably do the tikka compact 7-08 for him, and if need be, the low recoil to start out with.

I appreciate everyones advice, especially LoonWulf. I wouldn't have considered the Athlon prior, but feel like its the best bet for me.

If youd like to check out the an Athlon before dropping the cash on the HMR let me know, I've got a couple i can send up.
That is very nice of you. I appreciate it. I think I’m just going to pull the trigger and buy it. I’ve seen enough reviews and watched enough YouTube videos of its tracking, and even been able to look through the reticle on one video.

I just won the bid on a new Christiansen Armes Mesa 6.5 creed.... and am so happy to say I saved $200 on anything else I could buy online for a CA Mesa 6.5... I bought the Athlon Midas HMR to top it, and Camera Land saved me some money there too. I feel like I have a solid rifle, and a scope that does everything I need it to... I guess we'll see what happens after I shoot it. I also bought a lapping tool for the rings, which I've never done in the past, but hope that lapping the rings will add some accuracy. I plan on using MK machining on my caps, and if they don't have the exact fit, they said they'll make me caps for $75. I feel like a kid in a candy store

I’ve been absent more than ever lately but I can say from experience that the Sig system as a whole definitely works. No, it won’t help with wind, but for the price I punched that ticket for my daughter’s 6.5 Creedmoor to instill some confidence in her shot placement. I needed a new rangefinder to replace the outdated Leupold anyway so overall I feel I bought a cheap scope with near (to my eyes) VX-2 glass that’s kid friendly.

It isn’t the smart choice for many people, but usage determined purchase. Congratulations on the Athlon and the Mesa.

I replied in your other thread, but id probably start and stop with the Zeiss, or look up a Meopta.
Other than that, and if large size and extra weight arnt a big issue the Athlon Midas HMRs are really nice for the cost.
I should have bought a couple of those Ziess HD-5 scopes when they were at all the shops.
Super sweet scopes....

Ik I`m late to the post here but I believe you will like the Athlon. I`ve got 2 and have had no issues with them. The one on my CM has tracked fro 0-800yds more than I can remember with 0 issues. I`m planning on getting another before long to top off my PSA AR10 .308 to try and make it a 500yd gun, only got cheap ammo for it though so we shall see.
Keep us posted on how she tunes/dials in for you!
