I am buying a Socom 16 and am looking for a variable power scope, with the lowest magnification of 1-1.5. I don't need a lot of magnification, most of the scopes I have been looking at are 1-4x. I'm not looking to shoot further than 200-250 yards.
My number one choice at the moment would be the Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x20mm. I'm concerned that it does not have enough eye relief though, with 3.8-4.3."
The Horus Talon is my second choice at 1x-4x, has slightly longer eye relief at 5.5-3.3" (I'm a little concerned over the bigger difference of the eye relief), but I don't care for the cluttered recticle (Although not a deal breaker).
Bottom line is, I just want a short to medium range scope that will work well with the rifle. What do you guys think?

You're pretty concerned about eye relief (for good reason).....

The Nikon Omega and Slugmaster 1.65-5x36mm scopes have around 13.5" of eye relief on 1.65 power**, which is "only" over 400% more ER capability than the Leupold, and only 350% more than the Horus. Roughly. :p And they still have about 5.5" of ER (max) on 5 power. Around $225. But your other choices are fairly strong also-rans -- ummm, I mean 'contenders' -- as well. :)

**But you don't HAVE to be that far back - they still give a full view as close as around 4" even on 1.65 power.

Wow, I really really like those! Much more so than the ones I was looking at, there don't seem to be any compromises with the Omega and Slugmaster, and you can't beat the price! Do you know of any difference between the two aside from the parallax setting? The Omega is at 100 yards, while the Slugmaster is at 75. Other than that they seemed pretty similar
