I'd like to put a 2x or maybe a 4x scope on my Ruger Mk II target competition model (slab side bull barrel). Main use would be rabbit/squirrel hunting.

Any good suggestions?

Does anyone make a handgun scope that's eye relief adjustable? Or do I just have to try options until one fits my eye relief at hand held position?

I'm not interested in putting a red dot on this, I'd prefer a scope with some magnification and a reticule.

Thanks

Most handgun scopes have a generous eye relief range. I've got an old unmounted Leupold M8 4X (replaced with an M8 2.5-8X for the time being on top of my Browning Buckmark Silhouette Unlimited) I'm looking through right now and the eye relief, although officially listed as 18", will provide a good sight picture ~3-4" forward and back from the 18" line.

I plan on eventually topping the Buckmark with a Burris 3-12X as I'm occassionally using the gun to shoot at USBR targets for score. Magnification rules in that game and the 12X is the highest I've seen so far for handgun scopes.

Select your scopes magnification depending upon your intended use. The greater magnification you have the greater it mangifies your movement. If you will be shooting Bullseye where you must use a one handed unsupported hold most shooters use a very low power 1.5x or 2x scope. If you are shooting where you can fire from a braced or prone position and are shooting at longer ranges than typical pistol distance (beyond 50 yds) then a 4x or greater magnification would be usefull.

I've learned I don't like scopes on a handgun. Its not the eye relief, its the exit pupil that's the problem. The exit pupils, while very large by rifle scope standards, are still so small that its hard to find the "window" where you can see the full image thru the scope when held at arms length. It gets better with practice as you get a more consistant mount, but I just don't like it.

I've a matte silver Leupold 4X handgun scope which I'd got for a stainless Ruger 22/45. I'll sell for $150 COD. PM me if intrested.

If irons or a Red Dot can't do the job with the handgun, I'll use a rifle.

I have a Leupold M8 4x on my 10" match T/C and love it. It not too big, clarity is top notch and after 15 years and thousands of rounds it still holds it's zero and has never had any malfuntion.
