scope issue on rem 700...

Remington 700 SPS Varmint, .308. Scope is a Leupold VX-II, 4-12x50mm.

My problem is this:
All of my shooting is done at a max of about 125 yards. I have the elevation on the scope dialed all the way up and its still shooting about 1" low at that range. I dont think I missed anything obvious, I know its mounted tight, as it doesnt move and shoots nice tight groups....just not where I want them. Any ideas? Am I shooting in too close for the VX-II (would that make any sense at all)?

no, that isn't too close.
what rings and bases?

you need to get the rear ring mounted higher. either by shimming it, or switching your front and rear rings if it is a weaver mount system.

All Weaver rings are all the same in low, med, or high height.

It's the bases that are different with the Weaver system.

In other words, Weaver ring sets are not gun model specific.
The bases are.

In fact, that's true of every brand of rings I can think of.

true, but i was getting at a mismatched set - how else could a leupold be topped out at 100 yards shooting 308... ?

I agree....its likely a problem with the bases.

Could also be a defective scope.

Ruger rings are sometimes different heights. But thats not his problem, sounds like a scope malfunction, send it back Leoupold has #1 customer service. Had a VX 3 with same problem.

Im using Leupold rings and 2piece bases. I think they were either medium or high (Im certain low would not work with a 50mm scope). As they are Leupold rings and bases, I cannot swap the rings, as they are not interchangeable (rear has adjustment for windage).

Im hoping its not the scope, but if it is, I will be glad I forked out the cash for a Leupold. Im going to remove it, retighten everything and try it out again tomorrow (or whenever I get a chance). If no luck there, I think I'll be sending the scope in for inspection I think.

Could also be the action is out of square. Went thru that with a Savage HB. Another option in go to a +20 MOA 1 piece Warne base with the Warne weaver style rings.
