Reaching out to those who have experienced what I am facing with a new AR style rifle with Picatinny mounts. I have mounted dozens of scopes, seen dozens of issues, but never mounted an AR platform.

*Ruger SR-762 semi-auto .308 with picatinny rail running length of receiver, 16" barrel
*Leupold Mk4 LR/T 4.5-14X50mm
*Burris Signature Picatinny XTR 30mm rings with offset MOA inserts. (inc one set of 0, one set of 5, one set of 10, two sets of 20)
*Bushnell Analog bore sighter with bore arbors. (had this one for many years)

I always count my revolutions of scope adjustment, then start with the scope at it's mid point of windage and elevation. The scope sits fine with medium rings but low rings would not allow clearance of the ocular bell. I have appx 3/16" of clearance now.

My goal is to sight in for 100 yards since this is a hunting gun and my hog feeders are 100 yards by design. I realize I can get up to 40 MOA with this ring set, but not necessary here. So the very minimum I have to select is 5 MOA either + or -.

With the scope at mid-scale, I used a 5 MOA insert on the front ring. Wish I had another set of 0's but don't. BUT, I can't see my bore sighter to find my starting point. I think the scope is looking over the top of the sighter since they are so close together.

Two questions: How should I use the MOA rings to begin? +5 on top in the front ring? How do I go from here since I can't use my bore sighter?

I hope I don't offend anyone, but answers like I should not have bought those rings...or that rifle...or that scope won't help me a bit at this point. Please support me and not belittle my choices as we have seen many times over.

With that said, I thank you all very much for the time to help me move forward so I can get this gun in the hunting field!!

+5 on top in the front ring, 0's in back, shoot at 25 yards or so to make sure you're on paper.
