Scope mounting problem. Please Help!

I got a lightly used rem 700 SPS in 30.06. It came with weaver mounts, but no scope or rings. I got a Bushnell Trophy 1.75-4x32 scope from a friend who just upgraded to put on it. problem is, the way the rings sit on the mounts is too far apart to properly contact the tube of the scope.

Which part needs to go, the scope or the mount?

Weaver sell extension rings that will seat backward of the receiver ring and will permit yopu to use the scope you have.

Or buy a Weaver Style bridge base for the 700 with multiple slots and position the bases where you wish

Well no I didn't, gander mountain gave me the wrong box. and I was in such a hurry that I didn't notice untill I was at the range. they were priced the same. but alas It's another cursed short action scope!!!

Buy a Weaver #98 base. It will have five slots for mounting rings.
