Savage Stevens 200, long action.

Nikon Prostaff scope.

Cheap two piece mounts I bought off of Amazon.

Look much like many other two piece mounts I see for this gun.

Weaver rings from Walmart.

The scope doesn't fit. The tube, the 1 inch part, is too short. I have the mounts installed the right way so that the cross slots are as close together as possible. Soon as I put the mounts on I figured this would be a problem, but I bought the rings anyway just to make sure.

So I don't know much (anything) about scopes. I grabbed another scope I have from an air rifle, and the length of the tube is the same. I'm assuming there is some sort of standard to how long these things are supposed to be?

I know I could do a one piece mount, but it seems to me like that would interfere with the bolt/loading of the gun.

Do I need different bases or different rings? Yeah, I know, I should spend a bit more on these things, but it's a cheap gun, cheap scope, I'd rather not spend too much on the mounts if I don't have to. Just don't want to throw money at something without knowing if it's going to fix it.

You need either extended rings or extended bases. Weaver makes extended bases, or Burris XT bases should work.

You can stick with 2 piece bases. The Weaver extended bases are probably the least expensive way to go, and there's no reason they won't work.

I have that same rifle in 308.. I like the one piece base myself. I think this one is an EGW.. I'm not crazy about those Warne rings I have on this rifle, but they have held zero great... Hope the pics help... The one piece base doesn't affect the loading or unloading of cartridges at all...

This is a VERY common problem with long action Savage/Stevens rifles. For some reason Savage uses a far greater distance between mounting holes than any other company. It is difficult to find combos that work on them. I simply won't buy a long action Savage. Short actions are tolerable.

Some type of rail mount or extension rings must be used. Or you'll have to carefully choose a really long scope.

I had bought the weaver one piece mount and it worked perfectly fine for me.

No problem with the bolt or cycling. Took a hair longer to load but was never an issue for me.

I haven't done anything yet, but i think I'll go with the one piece mount if it won't interfere. Seems like it could mean a little more flexibility in how far back I'll be able to mount the scope.
