I would think a 1.5-5 or a fixed 6 would prob look good on it. A 2.5 or 3.5-10 might meet both your needs.

Kind of hard to pick between a target scope and an armadillo scope.

I'd lean toward a mid range or higher mid range priced scope, just because of the recoil.

Hard to beat a Leupold or Kahles, for what you intend, IMO.

I'd like to see some video of the armadillo shoot though. :D

I use a Leupold 3-9X on my 375 H&H. Never felt the need to change it out to anything less or anything more. What ever you get I would suggest it has a lifetime warranty and plenty of eye relief especially if you are shooting the 300 grain bullets.

1. I think armadillos are too cute to shoot.

2. 200 yards with a 375 H&H? That's some really long range shooting with a big bore rifle.

As for a scope, I think the #1 looks good with a European style scope. My 458 Tropical wears an older Weaver K3 and I think it works fine.

The 1-4x20 Leupold (as seen on the rifle pictured below) is a better quality scope and is more versatile. It's also a little more compact than the Weaver. But, it will cost about four times as much to buy. I found the Weaver used for $50. The Leupold will run about $300 new and I think I got this one used for $185 which was the best deal I have found on this model. Used ones usually bring nearly as much as new ones. You have to decide what you want to spend.

Of course, a scope with the larger objective bell will work fine. I just appreciate the rifle's look with the 20mm lens.

Just remember that the 375 has significant recoil and an inexpensive scope may not hold up. Also, please don't shoot armadillos. :D

Poor armadillo. :(
Jk, you can shoot them but I won't. They are just too awesome.

I would say a Leupold VX-II 3-9 is just right, decent enough magnification at 200 yrds. A nikon isn't a bad choice either, just needs to handle the recoil.

The Leupold 1.5-5x20 is the "traditional" choice. I have one on my Ruger .416 Rigby and like it very much. I do not shoot at small objects 200 yards away, though, so honestly cannot guarantee it will do what you want. I do know that I have a lot of fixed 4x and 6x scopes on my hunting rifles, though, and have never felt handicapped at +/-300 yards. A lot of folks don't believe that in this age of 18x scopes on deer rifles...

I've hunted with the same scope for 20 years--a fixed, 4-power Leupold.

I am a big-caliber guy, who's used the .375, the .416 and the 450-400 and loves them. I think 200 yards is a fair distance for the .375 H&H, although with cast bullets it will perform a bit more like a .45-70. No biggie--great target practice.

As for the bigger vs. smaller scope magnification, I fall squarely in the "less is more" camp. A larger-magnification scope will help you *see* better, it won't help you hit. When you're on a bench, this is good, while when you're shooting off-hand it can be (and often is) a liability.

Seeing the waving and bobbing of the crosshairs at (say) x12 make many shooters develop bad habits--like tensing up, holding their breath for too long, etc. This won't happen with a low-magnification 'scope.

Anyway, just my opinion. Get what you like and shoot a lot.
