Scope on a single barrel?

Anyone have any experience/knowledge re the feasability of mounting a scope on a single-barrel gun (H&R/Rossi type)? Can they be tapped? Soldered?

Presumably you're asking about shooting slugs from a shotgun you already possess? If not, H&R already offers the slug hunter with a scope mount:

No, I'm aware of the Slug Hunter, which, I believe, has an extra-heavy barrel, allowing it to be easily tapped for mounts. I am wondering about a scope on a standard, shot barrel. I am cross-dominant (right-hand dominant, left-eye dominant), and the idea of mounting a red dot is appealing, as I could keep both eyes open.

Note that the Ultra Light Slug Hunter weighs 5 1/4 lbs. I think it uses a light barrel. Perhaps contact H&R about the mount it uses.

My 10 gauge H&R Turkey model came drilled ant tapped. I use it for geese, but I've thought about trying it with a slug just because. I have never hunted with a slug gun. Rifles are legal here.

My gun takes, I understand, Browning BPS 10 choke tubes. I'd have to hunt down a cylinder choke if I wanted to try slugs in it. I have a mod that would be okay, but the extra full it came with would be a little much. Federal makes 3.5" 10 gauge slugs. God be with you if you try to fire one even out of a 9 lb gun.

BTW, the holes on the barrel are pretty forward, I suppose for an LER shotgun scope. That's a good thing. A normal mounted scope could do as much damage to the shooter as the game being shot. An aim point or low power scope makes sense for a turkey gun, though.

I see, Glummer. I'm not knowledgeable enough about scopes to help you but I wish you luck in finding the setup you want.

I have a Stevens .410 that I bought used 35 years ago. I cut the barrel to 18.5" and cut the stock down to make it my "snake gun" when I went fishing. Several months ago I made an aluminum skeleton stock for it and had it tapped for a scope mount. It now has a red/green dot scope.

I've heard that a scope rail can be mounted on those H&R/NEF shotguns...You just need to find a smith who is willing and talented enough to do it. There are guys who had taken their Tracker II rifled slug guns and had the barrel drilled and tapped for a scope rail. Some have said that the smiths wouldn't touch the 12GA but they would do the 20GA...Their reasoning was barrel wall thickness. But, some have reported to have had a smith do their 12GA barrels as well...So, find a good smith unless you are talented enough to do it yourself.
