I just noticed a car creep by my house and my neighbors house and shine a flashlight on both our houses. At first I thought it might be a pizza delivery boy or something, but then I was thinking that maybe we were being scoped out. It just seemed way too suspicious and our address's are easily legible on the mailbox. It is past midnight and he did not stop at any house on the street. I definately think he was creeping up the street but I am not sure what his intentions were/are. Not to stereotype but it was kind of a low rider car with a loud exhaust which is odd for my street which is a quiet, rural cul-de-sac. It is definately not one of my neighbors. Has anyone heard of anything like this or experienced it? Thanks.

pizza guy... almost 100% on that... i used to do the exact same thing when i was delivering... and people do get weird about seeing the flashlight, but it goes with the job... as for them being on the wrong street... heck, thats an every night occurrence for a pizza guy

Trust your gut

If your gut tells you there's trouble take precautions. It doesn't hurt to call the police and report suspicious activity. If it's a slow night they might send a car through your neighborhood and that never hurts.

Double check your locks, make sure your stuff is in order and then try to relax if they appear to have left.

Thanks for the info...i like the idea of hitting em with the deer flood...haha

Why would a BG light-up your home? Wouldn't he be announcing himself?

Wouldn't someone up to no good keep the lights off in order to see which houses & rooms are occupied?

I used to shine houses looking for addresses when I was a probation officer.

I have to think that a bad guy wouldn't gain much by shining a flashlight on your house at night. If he wants to scope it out, he can drive by in the daytime.

Burglars around here usually case a home in the daytime while no one is there. They typically burglarize during the daytime as well, same reason as above.

It's a common misconception that residential burglaries usually happen at night. While it's true that robberies and home-invasions are more common in the night time, these are entirely different situations.

Most burglars think of their activities the same way that we think of our jobs. They are looking for easy targets with a low risk high reward ratio.

Robberies are different, in that it is very rare that the victims of a home-invasion are complete strangers to their attackers. Their is almost always some prior involvement such as: illegal activities, crooked associates, jilted ex, stalker.

In you situation, it sounds like someone was looking for the address markers on the door instead of the mailbox. Even if I'm right, it's still a good reminder to assess you home's desirability as a target.

It could have been a real estate agent locating addresses and comparables for an early showing the next morning. You never know.

By the way, apparently google earth now has a street view available where they or someone had a car drive around neighborhoods. You might want to take a peek and see what they saw relative to where you live.

Click on street view for an eye opener. Who needs to do a drive by when this stuff is available.
