I'll get to the scope in a minute but first...I bought this homemade rifle holder at an estate sale. I've noticed that whenever I put it on the worktable there would be scratches left afterwards..

Turns out there was a screw head sticking out of the countersink hole so I ground it down some

OK... 3 days ago I was bored and decided I had a number of Ruger ring sets laying around and needed to get some scopes on rifles (which I didn't have on hand right then and there) but wanted to mount the rings regardless so they wouldn't be misplaced. In the holder is the M77I/.22 Mag, in the middle is an M77I/.223, and at the bottom is an M77I/.22 LR. Don't think I've shot any of them.

Went to Cabelas and Sportsmans but couldn't find anything I was looking for. Have two of the BSA Sweet .22 scopes on a couple of other rifles (Marlin SSV .22 mag and a Ruger 10/22 in a Mannlicher stock) and they have treated me well and I've been happy with the quality of the optics.

So, I opted for another Sweet .22 for the .22Mag. Specifically, the Sweet 22 SP, S22-618X40SP, 6X18 with 40mm objective lens, side parallax and 3-inch sunshade. Although the turrets are calibrated for a .22LR I still decided to put it on because I really don't play much with the bullet drop compensator (its there if I need it) I do adjust the parallax and like that its right there on the side vs on the end of the scope (like one of my older ones).

Mounting the scope with the Wheeler Leveling kit and Fat wrench to torque Ruger Torx screws to spec. Along with the levels I had a hanging plumb line I used to double check everything.

Taking it out to the range tomorrow along with a Hammerli .22LR, a Marlin SSV in .22 Mag. Going to do an informal accuracy test between the M77 and SSV .22 mags. Also taking a Henry .327FM and a Keltec PMR30. Been a while since I've been shooting. Bringing a thermos of coffee, the chony and a stack of targets and plan to spend a few hours on the bench shooting and relaxing.

Hopefully you'll post a follow-up report on accuracy.
My 22mag ruger American is a nice rifle, but I was a bit disappointed in the accuracy. Maybe I just haven't found its favorite ammo yet.
I'm interested in hearing about the pmr30 also.

Craig….I get that. The Sweet .22 has a 3 inch sun shade on it. Exasperates that ‘too big’ look.

I’ve always liked the contrast of stainless rings on a blue scope but have never liked it the other way around. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘stainless’ finish on a scope that I liked.

Old gloss Leupold rimfire 2-7x or 3-9X EFR would be my choice.
The latter has gone silly priced though.
Heck I paid 400 for a used 10X AO gloss.
But it went on a Ruger #3 wearing #1 wood..........so it was mandatory.

I don't care for any of the silver finished scopes either. My default is matte black but some guns get gloss black. I do like for my mounts to match the finish of the rifle.
