Scoping a Marlin 336

You'd think that, by now, some rifle manufacturer would have made their receivers to accept Weaver-type mounts without installing bases.
Now that's a fine idea...and since I have a penchant for 7/8" tubed Leupold Alaskans, especially the 2.5x models, I could really get that scope low...

Last year I mounted scopes on my Marlin Levers due to 73 yo aging eyes...miss the sleek receiver of an iron sighted or peeped Marlin, but so it goes...here's a pic of my .30-30 Texan with a 2.5, 1" Weaver mounted, followed by a .41 1894S and my Texan 336 in .44 Magnum, both scoped with Leupold 7/8" Alaskans but with different mount & bases. The last is an 1894CS in .357 with a William WGRS mounted IIRC.

Gotta admit, those scoped Marlins are a heck of lot easier to point at first light...and I don't stalk anymore...so they feel about the same up in a tree stand. YMMv Rod
