How do I scope an Ar-15 that already has an EOTech on it...

I want to be able to effectively and easily use the EOTech and the scope, without one interfering with the other...

Note that the EOTech is on the top rail above the receiver, and I have nothing on the rail above the barrel...

Thanks in advance.

Some people are scoping the rifle and putting a smaller dot site on top
of the scope's ring.

Another option is to get a low-mag scope with an illuminated reticle and
ditch the dot.

A more expensive option is to get a mag'd Aimpoint or a standard Aimpoint
with the twist-off mag tube.

You don't want much, do you?

If you have a set of floated handguards, you could mount a piece of Picatinny rail to the handguards at a 45-degree angle. Stick the EOTech on that, like so: http://www.dreadnaught-industries.com/AR15_Open_M4.JPG

There are a couple of doo-dads that allow you to mount a JPoint or Doctersight above or next to your main optic, but those are way too small for an EOTech.

Mount the scope to the receiver, and the Red dot to the top rail.....

Simple enough... Then you can use the EOTech through the scope if you get them both close to the same level, and don't use a high power magnification... At higher magnification the EOTech's ring and dot will blurr, but still give you a point of reference as to where the impact will be when looking through the scope with both eyes open. I know, I know, it sounds VERY MALL NINJA(and looks it too) but it can be very effective for switching between distance with the low to medium power scope and rapid up close type firing. As long as you don't dial the scope up too high you get the best of both worlds. I think what Chris Rhines has suggested might be a better option for you though, as the red dot I used with this set up was a multi-reticle tubeless one with a 1 moa dot as one of the patterns. It was much less effected by the blob effect of higher magnification, and also sat at just the right height. I think the EOTech would make for a very,"busy", scope if used in this configuration:) ...

Still 2 Many Choices!?

You could lookinto using this http://www.aimpoint.com/o.o.i.s?id=271&product_id=117 . It says that it is made for the aimpoint but you might check with Larue Tacticle to see if they have a mount to fit the Eotech. If you got one of Larue's quick detach mount fot it you could just take it on and off, plus you wouldn't have to worry about another set of crosshairs like you would with another scope.

Mount a variable power scope in front of the EOTech.

You'll need a pistol scope with enough eye relief so the EOTech fits between it and your eye. Getting the scope and EOTech lined up so they both shoot to the same point of aim will be a challenge.

When using the scope, turn the EOTech off.
When using the EOTech, turn the scope to its lowest power.

EOTech with the Aimpoint 3x magnifier (no reticle) placed behind it on a QD mount. The EOTech, with its zero intact, stays on the rifle. You then pop the 3x magnifier on when you want magnification, and off when you don't. This works extremely well with the EOTech. If anything, the EOTech reticle is sharper as seen through the Aimpoint 3x. It really is lovely.

Flash; EOTech is coming out with their own magnifier soon. It will no doubt be very nice.

I've never tried that or seen anyone do it. I think the concern would be
the lack of a cheek-weld and a point of impact that would shift all over
the place as a result. In fact, without even picking up my m4gery, I
question how well you could shoulder this set-up.

I would just swap out optics off the top as needed. That way you also don't
carry so much junk on the rifle.

I believe there are some new optics coming out onto the market recently that address this problem. Supposedly the ELCAN SpecterDR allows you to go from 1x red-dot-mode to 4x scope mode with the flip of a lever. MSRP of $1,757 is a bit high though...cheaper to buy a new RRA, scope, and sling, and if you need a distance shot, transition to your other rifle ;)

I agree with omnivore. Find a quick release mount for the aimpoint magnifier (or EOTech when it comes out, release date?). Pop on and off as situation requires...

I guy I compete with had a regular scope mounted on the flat top, and an EO on the handguard on top. I don't remember the exact set up he had, but it worked for him. Probably had tall scope rings, and looked thru them at the eo.
