Was milling around in my local gunstore, and I saw it. A Remington 11-87 Special Purpose with a 20"-ish barrel and rifle sights. Wood furniture, parked finish. Perfect. Bought it on the spot, like new, for $525.

Going to order a magazine tube for it soon. The special purposes don't have the dimpled tubes, correct?

Dang, you don't waste any time. Glad you found something that suits you so soon- btw, are welcome home sentiments appropriate?

I don't think the SPs have dimples, my 11-87 didn't. Take off the magazine cap, slowly and carefully in case there is no mag spring retainer in place. If you see a steel cup- like mag spring retainer, you should be good to go. Pull off the barrel and fore-end and take a gander at the mag tube, that will let you know for sure.

I think the 11-87s have a 21" barrel, did you make sure it was a smoothbore? Some of 'em have rifled barrels, that is fine for sabot slugs but less than stellar with buckshot.

At any rate, shoot it, shoot it, shoot it- then start modifying. And enjoy it...

Okay, here's the score.

I've got my two round magazine tube extension from Wilson. Unfortunately, my mag tube has the abominable dimples, so my friend's dremel is going to be required.

It's a 21" smooth barrel with rifle sights and an improved cylinder choke, for an overall length of 41.5".

I've called the three biggest gun parts distributors in the country, and NONE OF THEM can find an 18.5" barrel for the 11-87, it seems. I KNOW Remington makes the danged things, they put them on their 11-87P models!

I might just have the wood stock shortened. I want a shorter LOP stock (while the 14" LOP on my FAL doesn't bother me, it feels longish on a shotgun), but I kind of like the wood. It's...antitactical.

Any clue on where to find an 18.5" 11-87 barrel (12GA)? Rifle sights or bead sight, whichever.
