Are there any or will there be any CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 stocks available for those of us who would like to SBR it? I haven't seen any, but I think that CZ or any other company would be dumb not to sell the stock as I can't possibly be the only one who wants to SBR that bad boy. Thanks.

I thought there were some 922 issues that CZ was working with the ATF to clarify? Did that ever get worked out? I think the EVO 3 would make a great SBR candidate, but if you have to replace a whole bunch of parts to make it 922 compliant, it could get expensive quick.

CZ makes a buffer tube adapter already, but I have heard the same rumor about the 922r compliance so not sure where it stands.

Now maybe you can answer me a question, aren't they also importing a rifle-length version? How does that get around 922r and why not start with that and cut/replace barrel after the necessary forms are filed?

I'm new to the 922r issues as well but from how I understand it the imported item can have no more than 10 foreign parts. The ATF says the EVO has 16. In order to turn it into a rifle (SBR or otherwise) you would need to replace 6 of the parts and have a U.S. made stock. CZ has no intent of making a US made stock as they want to use the same one from the A1. Their kit would then replace 7 other parts for compliance.

As I read and understand this it also precludes you from just adding an AR stock to the rifle. Although it will likely be US made, the total parts count would still be over 10. Mags are an option to reduce parts count but then your weapon would be legal / illegal depending on which mag gets loaded.

Many people (as well as myself once I get an EVO) are submitting Form 1's as soon as possible. You don't create the SBR until you actually assemble it as such so you can have the paperwork approved and wait for the kit to come out this summer / fall.

I'm curious which of the following parts the ATF is saying the evo has and which parts the compliance kit will replace.

(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings *
(2) Barrels *
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions) *
(5) Muzzle attachments *
(6) Bolts *
(7) Bolt carriers *
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons *
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers *
(12) Hammers *
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors *
(15) Buttstocks *
(16) Pistol grips *
(17) Forearms, handguards *
(18) Magazine bodies *
(19) Followers *
(20) Floorplates *

I'd guess fire control group parts, a different muzzle device and possibly mags or magazine parts. What would be nice is a Geissele trigger and quality US mags (that still cost the anticipated $20). That way you get a legit upgrade and something you'd need to buy anyways. The cost of the kit could be a downer on an otherwise affordable and attractive gun. I'll be interested to see the details.

Hopefully someone will make a non ambidextrous safety, or at least a small lever replacement. I handled one today and really like what it could be as an SBR but that safety is a terrible design. The lever digs into your firing side hand when rotating to fire and sticks down too far once there.

Cz said they are planning on releasing one according to another post I read. I've seen some very clean deemed jobs done on it in the mean time.

The pistol came in first for the same reason the Galil ACE pistol came in before the rifle - it's easier. Pistols do not need to qualify under 922(r), so they can come in as-is. The reason 922(r) becomes an issue is when it is manufactured into a rifle that would not be importable. Currently there are no known domestic makers of Scorpion parts. This would be the same reason a full size 16 barrel Scorpion carbine isn't available, have to have the compliant parts for US federal law first.
Yes, the law IS stupid, but with the current Administration changing it is highly unlikely.
crazy, CZ-USA told me they were going to make an in-house safety replacement, but I haven't seen it yet. I took a hacksaw blade and file to mine and it works just fine now. Looks bad, but works great.
