Sean Penn's guns stolen

I have done a tad of digging, and have found some interesting stuff.

Remember that Sean was known for getting into fights occasionally.

Well that is disqualifiying for a CCW under California law, with a statute of limitations of 10 years. Trouble is, Sean has been living in Marin before the 10 years had elapsed. It's not determinative, but it is interesting.

Jim,
What are the California laws on issuing CCW? It seems to me that Penn has a criminal record that would preclude him from qualifying.

Jeff

The second article Jim cites tells us that Mr. Penn was considered eligible because his assualt convictions were more than 10 years old. I like the quote from the PD Public Safety officer in Ross:

"Not just anyone can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon. ... It's not a simple process and it does require some diligence on the part of the person seeking the permit."

IOW, you have to be someone worthy, someone special, someone who's name the chief can drop at dinner parties.

Are you a turtle?
Y.B.Y.S.A.I.A!!!

I haven't seen a fellow Turtle in YEARS!!!

I didn't even know they were still around.

I lost my card a long time ago!

How very cool!

Quickdraw! How cool to see another turtle!

My good buddy lives in Marin..

He says that basically it's neigh impossible to get a ccw there..

Plus a criminal record precludes ccw's, as you would fail a background check.

So..

Who's daughter is he sleeping with (or better yet, threatening to sleep with)?

PATH, pass the barf bag around.

Zander.. All creatures in the PRK are equal... some more equal than others..:barf:

Ross!?! Small town/BIG money. No wonder he got it.

I lived next door in San Anselmo for a year.

Pop. 2100 and the cops have full IR/NV turret type remote sensors on their cars when I was there. That tells you how much money there is for a town that small. That plus the PD and FD are local, not contract with the county. Think Bel-Air (but more exclusive) North. Locals used to tell me that if you are any other color than white you can look forward to being looked over *real* hard by the cops if passing through.

Shoo-in based on the where and "who" he is. :fire:

Known so far: Penn bought a house in Ross for a bit over $2mil, in 1996.

His last misdemeanor conviction for ADW was '86, but in '97 he was popped on a parole violation for simple assault (plain ol' punch versus use of a rock in the previous). Numerous other allegations of violence but those are what are important, along with the date of CCW issuance (so far unknown, but bet your butt I'll find out).

If the '97 matter resulted in conviction, he'd have been barred five years past that. He was barred from firearms ownership 10 years after the '86 thing.

So when did he score?

Then there's the quotes:

"I hate journalists. Or better. I hate paparazzi. Yeah, I punched them out and I'll do it again if it's necessary. I think a fist in their face is the only way to protect my private life. I demand my freedom. And I must have it."

"Family makes me feel there's a reason I'm alive... I'm feeling my life, which I didn't always do partly because I'd be drunk a lot."

This case might just cut both ways. It certainly looks like the law is not being applied equally, but Penn's situation might provide a case for stiffening CCW control...if that is possible in urban California.

So, he can carry in California, but not Baghdad. No wonder he didn't move to Baghdad.

The important thing to emphasize here is that under the current "discretionary" system, if a high-profile lunatic like Penn screws up with his permit, it's an embarassment for the top cop who issued.

PLUS the "elite individual" in question has just gotten graphic proof that they're "above the law".

When you combine these, you get a horrific trend: wealthy nutcases screw up, and it gets covered over by that top cop and others, out of "professional courtesy". And knowing this, the "elite types" screw up more.

This isn't just theory. Of 20 "elite permits" issued in '99 by sheriff Baca, 2 were charged with felonies just inside the first year.

Then there's James Colafrancesco :barf::

...and God only know how many more.

When permit issuance is handled on a sane and fair basis, then yes, it's possible some loonies like Penn could score (although in most shall-issue systems, Penn's history is montonously wacky enough to keep him from scoring if a sheriff or police chief wanted to block it). But they'd know that their freaky conduct would NOT embarass the top cop who issued, and the police would be free to come down on 'em like the wrath of Satan if they blew it.

re-quoting myself from calguns.net:

If you ever want to get extremely frustrated and pound your head against the monitor, just cruise over to the San Francisco Indy Media site and click the comments link on the left side, but a word of warning- be prepared for anarcho/crypto/socio/communist/anti-basically everything type of thinking.

In spite of all that I browse the site every week or so just to see what the fuzzies are thinking. And right now, they’re very confused about what to think about Mr. Penn’s antics. They idolize him as a ‘true hero in the fight against American Imperialism’ for going to Iraq, yet are unclear as to why ‘any sane person needs a killing machine’ like a Glock for.

Heh. Irony tastes good.

RE: Sean Penn
Quote overheard from Dennis Miller.

"Sean Penn. Dead career walking"

gotta luv it, even considering the source

Well the maggot got his car back. And, yes. I do think that maggot is a correct term for him. He is a parasite (like most of Hollywood). The suck their living off of society having done little if anything for anyone but themselves.

Of course. The guns are gone.

Wonder if he would support someone for suing him when the dirtbags use them in a crime?

The liberal left amazes me more all the time!
