I saw a video about about a product called Glow-on; it is a Paint posted by one of our members by the name of Gatopardo.

I have some rifles and pistols that I would like to see the front sight better during darkness. Some of the guns already have night sights but either my eyes or the sights have grown tired over the years and it is time for a brightness adjustment.

I Emailed Gatopardo about his product and he said he would ship some to me the following day. That was 3 days ago and the product was in my mail today!

Looking at the fold out that came in the bubble wrap package it says:

Long lasting; it glows up to 12 hours.
It is 10 times brighter than similar products; is water based and will last for at least 10 years.. non-radioactive, non-toxic.

The product says it uses a super concentrated phosphorescent formula.

For any of you who have been on the ocean during a pitch black night and come across all the critters who have the phosphorescent glow it is really neat to see and certainly works.

I was busy all day and plan on applying Glow-on tomorrow and will update this thread when I get the results from my application. Hope it works as good as the video says it does.

Finally found the time to apply the Glow-On. I took a cue tip dipped it in alcohol and cleaned the front post of some ARs. I did not get the Glow-on for my pistols in that they all have night sights but I may go back and do a touch up on some of them.

Two of the ARs have night sight front post that I installed a couple of years ago. In my opinion the post were a waste of money due to their weak illumination. Also the Illumination is only on one side of the front post?

I used the Glow-On to top the front post of the ARs. I used a super fine paint brush to apply. The Glow-On is rather porous after application. I then took some of the best clear finger nail polish I could purchase to seal the Glow-On as per the video.

After applying the product and clear nail polish then letting dry I took the weapons into a dark closet; it is extremely bright and I will not have any problem seeing the front sight on any of the weapons the product was applied.

In summary the product went on as advertised and the clean up was easy due to being water based.

I was concerned about the water base thinking long term but after sealing with the clear nail polish Glow-On should not be affected by moisture.

I wanted something bright and it is really bright. So far I am please with the product and believe it will work for me. I did not get any of the glow strips but if they are like the paint they will really light things up!

This sounds like a practical alternative to expensive night sights. Let us know how they function outside in various dark and semi-dark conditions.

Tonight after leaving the weapons in a pitch black safe for 3 days I am going to remove from the safe and see if they still glow? If they are dead then I will hold a flash light on them for a couple of seconds (kinda testing how long to recharge the glow) and see how it goes,,,,,glows!

Sights were totally dead with no glow at all from 3 nights in the safe. Hit the sight for 5 seconds with flash light beam and "POOF" just like magic they absorbed the light and started emitting a bright glow. After being exposed to the light the Glow-on is supposed to glow for up to 12 hours.

Bottom line for me the product works as advertised. Recommend do not use to much during application for it really does glow kinda like a glow stick. A little dab will do ya!
