I was out of town this weekend and noticed at a shop they had several sierra .224 bullets on clearance and on the 60gr HP it said discontinued. I just looked on sierras website and it still shows them available. anyone have a clue on this? they wanted like $19-100 and I was thinking those 60gr might be a good coyote load and also a target load for my 1-9twist 223rem but I don't want to buy them and work up a load to have them discontinue them.

also in your guys opinion-I have good sub MOA loads for 50, 55gr v max bullets and also nolser 55gr HP. when do you say enough is enough and stop trying different bullets?

I don't see ANY discontinued 60 gr bullets from any makers, check out midsouth,

I'd say they'd shoot great in your 9 twist, get em, if they DO get discontinued there's the hornady HP and vmax too....
Could be the store just discontinued carrying them due to a lack of interest.
Eta, I meant to add, before I posted but got distracted putting kids to bed, personally part of the thrill is the exploration factor, followed by the field testing, so enough is not enough for me sir, but I understand how it can be for others ;).

While not quite the same thing, I have used Hornady 60 grain Spire Soft Point and Spire Hollow Point bullets in my 223 loads for decades. I'm sure the Sierra 60gr would deliver similar performance. Since I was shooting a Ruger Mini-14, I could not get velocities out of its barrel comparable to what longer barrels were delivering in AR-15 and Bolt guns of the time and the 60 grain, which I could easily get to around 2850-2900 fps delivered excellent performance on small game even out of the 1:12 barrel of my Mini-14. I never took coyotes with it (all the ones around the family farm were only active at night and when they were moving went out of their way to avoid people), but beaver and muskrat were taken.

I said "enough" when I discovered these Hornady 60 grain bullets, got a load worked up and saw how well they performed.

You make a good point. Ever since the 62 grain was adopted by the military, the 60 grain bullets seem to have lost some momentum in the marketplace.

I've noticed myself, midsouth too happens to be pushing the 62s right now, as well as a bear creek upper on their main page, the prices aren't bad, but also not my thing with either one lol, never tried the heavy Hollowpoints in my lil 20" 1:12, might haveta after your post though!

Most times when a store lists an item as discontinued they mean they will no longer carry the item. It doesn't necessarily mean the vendor us discontinuing the item.

That bullet and similar bullets will probably make a great coyote load.
